Glad I moved over to Poly Trucking

If we wanted a 5 day a week job...we'd work a 9-5 cubicle. But as a 5 day a week driver, you're either local or you get what...1000 miles from home. For an OTR driver....boooooooring. I'm not saying there is anything right or wrong with it, but I enjoy seeing the country. Like what JD said...the diversity of trucking allows for such a wide variety of options...like this load...I have done the Riceboro to Laredo twice. The first time I went the US routes across GA to I-10 then to San Antonio and down...this time I took the interstate to Jacksonville the across to Houston and the US routes to Laredo...and the best part...Poly doesn't care how I go as long as I am safe, legal, on-time, and within 10% of what google maps or mapquest says the miles are...which goes back to Mr digits(and what lilrob said).. do you get paid for every mile you drive? No...I can't believe you work for a company that screws you out of money like that. If the office staff works 40 hours a week...do they only pay them for 36? They get paid for all their time...so should the driver...like here.

Shaaaaaaazm. I left home on Tuesday at 1400 eastern, headed up to Riceboro and picked up my load. This afternoon (Thursday at 1600 eastern) I am backed up to the receivers dock in Laredo. 1528 miles in 50 hours...and if I get back to GP by Sunday, just a little over 3100 miles (if my backhaul is ready tomorrow I may be able to make it by Friday...which would mean just under 2100 miles since I left home...old man my ###)

 

Backhaul called. No luck on a tile load again. Pick up in Laredo going to Flower Mound for Monday. I have a '900 diff' in the q'comm transmit que, but no signal to send it.

Mark this date on the calendar. ..900 diff approved and I am on the board... for the weekend. Truck is due for a p.m. so I hope I am not in a loaner...last time the p.m. was done the very day I brought it in.

 

I do all drop and hook have my schedule for a whole year and make a 100k plus a year . oh yeah its real boring spending time at home with family. Your out 3 to 4 weeks spending money to make money. and yes get paid hub miles, paid for sleeping paid for arriving paid for departing paid for everything.

if that works for you then good glad your happy. life is just to short in my opinion to be living on the road for 3 to 4 weeks just not my cup of tea. I have over 2 million safe miles and have covered my fair share of ground.

 

your kind of job is rare...usually it is hometime or money...not both. I still enjoy roaming the country...would be divorced in 6 months if I had your job. I was home 7 days last time...by day 6 we were on each others nerves...we love each other, but our bonds of love are tested with too much togetherness...guess it's the byproduct of 29 years of marriage

 

It's the Indy 500 here at Poly GP when the work day ends , almost had a girl take the front end of my truck off right in front of the presidents office today.
I saw her just in the nick of time , she didn't even see me .
The 4 wheelers come out of nowhere around here.
.....my BP will hopefully come down before long .

What a horrifying thought getting fired at the end of the first week of the best job I've ever had

you ain't seen nothing...we had a plant worker (who is now a former plant worker) run a stop sign on the yard and hit one of the old Columbia's as a mechanic was bringing it back to the line...almost totaled the big truck. They had to replace everything on the right side from bumper to firewall he hit is so hard. Then he tried to force Poly's insurance to pay for it...even though it was his speeding and running the stop sign that caused it. Needless to say...our lawyers beat it...soundly...

Oh, and glad to hear you're happy with your move...it only gets better
