I would guess in the Chicago area.

Most of the rest of the state the trucks ran about 65.

I know you have no evidence for any of that.

It's a common misperception, probably still fueled by the thoroughly discredited study "Solomon (1964)".

One was Chicago area, the other was outside of Champaign, coming OUT of a construction zone.

I think the discrepancy here is that running with the FLOW of traffic can/should be different than running in a GROUP of traffic. I can run with the flow, but I try and make sure I am not in a group, but in space, not necessarily slower, but apart from.

Red herring. Obviously all 50 states require seat belts.

There is no source, that was my point.

Try to get that victim mentality under control. What's the fine in NJ, 50 bucks?

In a civil suit, who was belted will be a primary point of argument in determining the amount of damages assessed.

You left out I-40 with its 55/70 mph split and long-steep grades. Since 55 is the max it's impossible to sling shot the grades. Forget 55 as you're lucky to be doing 25 topping some of those grades in an underpowered truck. Plenty of near misses on that stretch of road between distracted car drivers and slow trucks.

    "Proof by example".

Proof by example (also known as inappropriate generalization) is a logical fallacy whereby one or more examples are claimed as "proof" for a more general statement.

The two in the front seat wearing seat belts were not injured. The ones in the rear where seat belts are not being told about seem to be injured. Not hard to figure if they were wearing or not.

Why should someone be responsible for the costs of the person not wearing the seatbelt per the law as well.

Civil suit is true, but the fatality and injuries may be their own fault for not wearing the seatbelt as well. There is no doubt the driver of the truck struck the limo.

Not hard for you. Apparently investigators on the scene have not announced their determination.

OK, that's a point, but I am just one of those people reluctant to assume I know what I have no method of having learned.

In 20 or so seconds a driver should appear to cite a circumstance where a fatality occurred due to a seat belt being worn, therefore wearing a seat belt will kill you....

You are assuming the van was sitting still at the moment of impact. If the truck was going 65 mph and the limo was going 45, then the impact would only have been 20 mph. Do we know how fast the limo was going at the time of the impact?
