I just wanted to ask, what happens if you have a load and for what ever reason something happens that's not your fault and you have to relay, how does that change the rate on that load? Also how about the miles to the drop lot? Thanks

It's happened to me a couple of times. Exact same rate paid, drop yard was close though.

It's $400 now. There are certain situations where the fee applies, breakdown is one of them unless another ic covers the load. Weather,a screwup with appt times, etc there is no fee. At least thats what we were told in orientation.

    tynodine and Wheelwell Thank this.

Not for stuff that is out of your control. I had a trailer with an OOS issue that came up after I picked the load up that I had to relay at a dropyard once, they paid me the same rate as listed on the load board to take it the miles from the shipper to the dropyard.

The $400 fee seems to be there for when an IC royally screws up and they have to reroute another tractor from God knows where to come pick up the load. Most of the time it seems even with breakdowns and stuff if you can get the load to a place where another driver can easily pick it up, they won't charge you.

    tynodine Thanks this.

I have never paid a fee. Then again, it wasn't my fault.

I asked for a relay once. I was 20 hours early and asked for a local driver to make the delivery. It worked out great. I actually got an extra 500 miles that week by not spending a day at the consignee.
