Although I agree with you statement wholeheartedly, I think he is probably talking about New Century. -
the lack of logic in that statement
so if the government wants to constantly add more and more bureacracy, rules and regulations, its YOUR fault if it costs you more, not really the type of thinking i expect from non-liberals
my issue with elogs has nothing to do with what it costs the company but how it is nothing more than an unnecessary monitoring and control device which affects the revenue of the driver (not the company)
the fact that i am trusted to drive 80k lbs of material across public highways, but i need to be told when to go to bed is a bit much. however, we have survived this. with the elogs, it puts concrete rules on a fluid industry, and it just wont work
dont give me the "legal" aspect of it, walmart was legal in jersey and he killed someone, LEGAL DOES NOT MEAN SAFE
i would urge everyone to drive safe, courteous and get the job done you are being paid to do, without nanny state, your dispatcher or even DOT dictating how you should do it
because you need 10hrs of sleep does not mean everyone does
because a shipper screws up your day does not mean you have to drive ILLEGAL just to get to a truckstop
because you have 30miles from home does not mean you have to park on the shoulder because a computer tells you that you are unsafe to drive
i dont know what is so hard about this
drive when rested, sleep when tired, its just that simple
if drivers would stand up to their dispatchers who want to drive them like a bunch of mules, maybe we wouldnt have this problem
if drivers would demand a decent pay, maybe we wouldnt have this problem
but dictating how i do my job with a computer is not the solutionSMTatham, cowboy_tech and snowblind Thank this. -
I really don't have any problem with most of your post, and I am sure that you, I, and most on here may very well not need any supervision whatsoever, fine, what about the other 50% of this industry that leaves piss bottles at the fuel island, doesn't have the common sense to shower or change their clothes for a week or more at a time, throws garbage out their window when parked, have terrible road manners, takes a #### behind their trailer instead of walking to the RR, or takes a piss in an open paved parking lot in plain sight of the public?
Go ahead and tell me how you would trust the judgment of these individuals to be safe, stop when tired, or use good judgment when on the road. E-logs won't stop them from all of the other disgusting things they do, but it will outline an issue or show a pattern of blatant disregard for the rules of the road, and if the company they drive for continually looks the other way at some point it will catch up to them.
The plain and simple truth is, there are a LOT of people that drive commercially that probably shouldn't be, something needs to be done, and it sounds like your solution for EVERYBODY is to just be on the honor system and make it a free for all, I just can't buy that, sorry, there are just too many out there that lack that type of common sense. -
the 14 hour rule is the problem not elogs.no flexibility
AfroBat and cowboy_tech Thank this. -
elogs is a problem too.
anything that can, will delay you. and now your screwed.
i ran the box 4 months. i lost track of how many times i spent the night because i was out of time. or the weekend for that matter. it was either time for lunch or time to shut down.
next time plan better. you can plan all you want. but you can't plan for weather, construction, traffic, accidents, inspections, or whatever else that may screw up your day.
like ezx says. drive when rested, sleep when tired. it's the ONLY way to drive. not the gooberment's way.
and if that walmart accident don't convince the gooberment that even TOTALLY LEGAL don't work. then we're ALL SCREWED. -
Alright dudes, for real now. The elogs isn't causing the delay its just recording things as they happen. Just because you are ok fudging paper doesn't make the delays disappear. In my worthless opinion, too much fudging is a reason for the FMCSA wanting to push the ELF mandate through. Once the company figures out that you're comfortable taking liberties with your coloring book they'll use that to their advantage at your expense.
Roadmedic, KANSAS TRANSIT and Chucktaylor Thank this. -
I haven't had to reboot my pen and paper, or be shut down by company policy because the e-log was down, I can do paper quickly and accurately, again, without the hassles of a contrary device attached another contrary device, i.e. the vehicle I'm driving.
Some companies have the policy of fixing it as soon as possible, and it may mean sitting for awhile, depending on where you are when it can't be restarted remotely.
You, if you are using one, need to be prepared to use paper by regulation if the EOBR(changed now to the less inclusive ELD), goes down. All I have to do is find something that writes.
I love the way some of these guys run, dogging along empty on arterials hitting every red light, and then, when they hit the freeway, they can't fly fast enough. I hate those lights in Fitchburg, WI onUS18 and US151.
sMeltom Thanks this. -
Hopefully when the construction is done it will be better
25(2)+2 Thanks this.
