i'm thinking of attending England trucking school in spartanburg, South Carolina. I was hoping someone could tell me if this was a good company to work for -- or any ideas as to what better companies were out there. Thanks.

There ARE better companies out there. I would stay far away from c.r. england. They have a 120%turnover rate. Also stay away from swift, werner, covenant, and J.B. hunt. You would be better off applying for
Marten, crete, sunflower, or possibly schneider. Ive heard 50% good and
50% bad on schneider, but Ive rarely heard anything negative about marten. Good luck.

I'm going to second that vote on Marten Transport, Ltd. I've heard nothing but positive comments from their ex-drivers, which is a rare thing. Apparently Randy Marten keeps a close eye on how his drivers are treated.

I have a history with Crete Carrier Corp. I was leased to them for three years as an Owner/Operator in the early nineties, and they were fantastic then. I left to plunge into total ownership of a small carrier that I bought for pennies on the dollar, and then spent the next decade yanking out my hair in constant worry. I'm just not CEO material, and readily admit it.

Anyway, I have kept in contact with some of my friends that stayed around and some that still hang around the company, and some changes have led to Crete sliding down a slippery slope.

Tom Ostergard is now CEO, and apparently has a different way of doing things from Duane Acklie, whom I deeply respect. They have lost many key people over the past couple of years, including long time operations staff.

They still are better than many of the large players out there, but have dipped on my recommendation scale, due to the things I'm hearing of late.

If one can hire into one of the dedicated accounts, they can do well and be a bit more content than the national OTR drivers are, but you really have to live in the right spot to get into one of those positions.

I hate to contradict someone, but CR England is one company that has generated a great deal of complaints all over the web, and I urge people to read what they can find, before jumping on any offer they have.

If one desired to work for them as a company driver, then they might be tolerable. CR England is pushing their truck leasing program, and this is where I cry foul. The program they offer is an absolute no-win situtation, and they are extremely deceptive in the terms being disclosed up-front, and in fact guard most of the finite details until a prospective driver is on their premises. This goes against any and all advice I offer on leasing trucks. If you cannot get all the details up-front, and are allowed to peruse the lease agreement up-front, BEFORE you agree to sign on, then it is almost GUARANTEED to be a bad deal.

I too have been looking into CR England for employment. I can say this, on the web I find many bad comments about them as a company. It is hard to find anything good about them. However, when talking to drivers I found that those who have been with them for 2yrs or more are happy. I have come to the conclussion that if you go with England they will treat you as a number for the first couple of years. If you stick it out and get pass all the BS then they will treat you right. The drivers I have talked to did say that England is pushing there lease program hard and the program is a bad deal.

 It takes a special person to make it work. Most Lease deals ONLY FAVOR the company! (ENGLAND /PRIME, ect) NOT YOU!!!

It's interesting reading about the C.R. England on these message boards. You all have it entirely wrong. Leasing a truck means independence from the hassles of being obligaged to a company. C.R. England does not lease trucks. A sister company, Opportunity Leasing, is the company that leases trucks for England. As a seperate company, England provides services and opportunities for the business owner looking to prosper their business. If you are not business savy, obiviously, leasing through ANY company wouldn't be reccommended. If you can't take the heat... you know how it goes. England's turnover has DECREASED dramatically since the inication of these new programs. Putting the responsibility of running your own business, brilliantly in the hands of the business owner. If you want to be babied and have your hand held maybe this isn't the program for you. If you are serious about making a difference in your life beginning with your income levels, come check it out. Don't talk to people who have dropped out and can't "handle" running their own show, talk to the successful drivers who are living a higher lifestyle because of their prosperity as independent contractors. It's an easy choice.

    You've got to be kidding....

Regardless of the business relationship, and the way it is set up, you are not going to change the truth of the matter. England is one of the WORST prospects when it comes to trucking, and that's all there is to it.

The program is set up like all the others, in that unless you never want to see your home, you'll never make a profit worth speaking of.

Please....sell that line of stuff where it will be received....like Fantasyland.

    "A sister company"....so what? That's a defense?
