Anywhere from 40-70% depending on which company I'm trying to deliver.
With Walmart DC deliveries, it's around 40%.
But that's reefer freight; they're going to break down every single pallet and count it down.
Once sat in a dock at C&S wholesale in Upper Marlboro, VA for 24'ish hours, once- not even kidding.
EDIT; I can see where you're going with this. The most venerated and sought after runs, typically in my realm of freight, come from the SW. Specifically, CA. A lot of guys on here, like to ##### about L.A. I never did. I got a lot of good freight out of L.A. Almost always produce, headed to the East coast. Easy 2,500-2,800 miles, easy. Maybe not other guys. I dunno what their deal is. That's just mine. Maybe it's an isolated incident.
What I can say, is that these were big, uninterrupted runs. Some of them (40-60%) were drop and hook right back to the midwest.
Good miles. Always valued getting to the west coast, always meant a good paycheck.
Most of the non-interstate driving was on US highways and some state highways.
Do your homework, and check restricted routing in your atlas. If you roll up to a low bridge, try not to turn your wagon into a tuna can. -
I'd say 85% of my driving is done on highways, freeways and interstates.

I am on the Major highways an average of 7 hours a day. Smaller roads and city streets 1 hour and parked the rest of the time.
Trucking is run with military precision i.e. "hurry up and wait." -
As much time is required. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10+ hours. Especially before the 8 hour rule I would drive about 10.5 hours per day straight. Mostly interstate and one stop to fuel up and eat.

To answer your. question .. as much time as it takes -
It depends man. Shippers/receivers like to keep you waiting for hours sometimes a day or longer. So far for me its been 2-3 days to a destination, straight nonstop driving time, then wait for customer. Because my company does only live load /unload so that takes more time. Im going to say 75% of the time is spent driving on a highway.
