A recent thread about a driver who was killed by a hit and run prompted me to ask this; How many of you wear a safety vest whenever you get of your truck if you have to pull off along side of the road?
I had already made up my mind to wear one prior to reading the other thread, and regardless of any requirement or regulation, etc. Likely I made the decision based on my practice of wearing one whenever I rode my motorcycle.
So, for those of you who wear one as a practice, do you do it because of policy/regulation, or personal concern/mistrust of other road users in general, past experience that prompted you to, or because of tragedies like the recent hit and run, etc.?
Those of you who do not wear one, why not?
I am very safety minded, so to me it is a common sense issue, plus I am generally distrustful of other road users.
Safety Vest, do you wear one?

Personal concern and I don't know the story your talking about. If possible I try to get off the road to fix my load or tarps. If I have to walk on the traffic side, I'm always facing oncoming traffic and stick my winch bar out another foot. It's amazing how much more distance the cars will give so they don't hit the metal bar, but could care less about a human. If it's too dangerous, I'd rather buy a new tarp than be hit.

Yes...not because of safety though...but because I look darn good in it.

That's actually a good idea Alaska76.I have quite a few safety vest companies gave me because some of their customers require it.Never thought about wearing it if broke down on the side of the road.
Alaska76 Thanks this. -
I wear at shippers that require it. I also wear if ever pulled over on side of road and fixing the truck.

Alaska, anything would help but don't trust anyone. Keep your eyes on your back and use the passenger side as much as possible. Even go out the passenger door. -
i spent a couple of years working for a company who delivered limestone to several mines in the southwest and I was put through countless safety classes that were required by MSHA
Mine Safety and Health Administration - MSHA
I kept wearing it because I got tired of looking up and seeing some idiot headed right for me ...
cabwrecker, Alaska76 and pattyj Thank this. -
With all the idiots driving these days, I've been tempted to start wearing mine in truck stops. But yes....as required by customers and if stopped on the roadside for sure.
pattyj, Alaska76, skibum_63 and 1 other person Thank this. -
When I have to wear a vest at the customer then I just leave it on because im too lazy to take it off, lol. But it should be a requirement for ALL MOTORST to wear a vest if on the side of the road.Im going to start keeping mine in my car in case that ever does happen.
