First, keep in mind you only go through training once, there is a lot more to learn than just holding a steering wheel. Learning time management and basic freight lanes, state specific oddities, handling maintenance issues, learning to tactfully put your foot down with management.... The moment you start solo you are expected to handle whatever life hands you. After 12 years I still learn a lot....point being quality of training is more important than length.

Also keep in mind under the new rules you have to watch CSA scores. If the starter company you choose leads to too many equipment violations, you can have trouble leaving them.

ya short training i agree with you on that one. i got sick of a guy who couldn't even spell (literally) telling me how to drive a 80,000 pound vehicle. i was ready to get off his truck. but theres places you can go with short training like roehl and Shepard. im at central which i like. but the training is 4 weeks.

This whole "let's get into our own truck as soon as possible with no prior experience" thing is a bunch of BS. It's a recipe for disaster and you're just putting the rest of us in danger. 2 weeks isn't enough time to get used to a truck, how to load/secure/drive it. You may as well go to Swift's old scam of a driving school too. My advice: Go somewhere who will teach you a thing or two, don't just work for crooks because you can get on the road earlier. Even after my 2 week orientation and 5 weeks with my trainer at Tmc, I didn't know all I needed to. Luckily my dad drives truck, and I have been around them my whole life. "I've driven all types of vehicles." On a farm? Cause that really compares to Chicago, or Atlanta, or DC. GET SOME EXPERIENCE. You'll have plenty of time to be on your own after you're properly trained.

Battleborn, I do believe training is a good thing. I see the light. The company i am applying with actually trains for 8 weeks and none of it is team driving. Trainer is there for me everyday.

And always always ask questions to your trainer the only dumb question is the one you don't ask... Make sure the trainers doing what he supposed to be doing if you feel you not get the proper training as the company for another trainer you have the right to be properly trained that you could be a will to make the kind of money that you're supposed to make you know how to do your job properly

Wildmurphy is the company CT? If so I've heard really good things, the 8 weeks will go by a lot faster than you think, trust me. And at the end, you'll be on your own with a GOOD company. Good luck and keep us posted.

T_TRUCKER, I am trying to get on with Crete Carrier. CT transportation does look like a good company though. What is your opinion of Crete?

I would like to add the following companies you should apply too: Epes Transport, Cargo Transporters, Abilene Motor Express. Try those three as well. All three have decent training programs. Crete is pretty good but watch out for the sleep apnea test.
