Way back in 1975 was hauling new Mack's out of Hayward Ca to Sommerset, PA. I was hauling 3 units at a time stacked. Some where between Sacamento and Reno the oil plug fell out of the oil pan in the truck I was driving. I pulled onto the shoulder and was now where near an exit, No cell phone . All had for tools was an adjustable wrench and screw driver. Well this was before Calif was paying money for old pop and beer cans.
I spent about 15 mins collecting old cans and then drained the oil out of one of the trucks I was towing and took the oil plug and put it in the truck I was driving, In the oil transfer I only lost about 3 quarts of oil. Finished just as it got dark. -
A/c compressor, had shop vac and refill afterwards. What can I say, my PM is tops and my old Freightliner is the best truck I ever drove. She just never breaks down.

Replaced a blown turbo and cleaned all the intake down in GA about 10 years ago in a truckstop parking lot. About 3 years ago I replaced the internal wiring harness of my ACERT while sitting in a truckstop. Any more it seems like most drivers give guys a funny look when they see guys repairing their trucks while on the road. Guess they figure its cheaper and faster to have a shop fix stuff. LOL

Not a O/O anymore, but when I still had my truck, most work was done at a shop, don't want to play a mechanic for what ever hours it takes to get fix and then have to drive for 11 hours, But, I did replace my starter at the Petro in Milan, NM on I40, Wasn't to hard, 3 bolts, couple wires and about 1 1/2 later...Varrroooom
