    just a quick question.
im going to werner orientation on monday, 8/11 and i was curious about the legnth of training.
now im not fresh out of school but i have been out of the truck for a few years.
am i still going to go thru 300 hours of training or and im going to be shown the ropes as far as logs go and be out for a week and then go onto my account?
im suposed to do the dollar tree account in the north east.......but i also can go to western express and do drop and hook and not have to lump freight. what sucks is i would have to do long island, nyc.....the 5 boroughs. which absolutly blows.
all of the training info ive found has been for students straight out of school.
im an experienced driver ive just never had to do logs and such so that kind of stuff i dont know about which is why i have to go with a company like werner or western......to get my otr on. im not running 48 states, just northeast reigonal.
    any onfo is always appreciated.

also, in any of your opinions, in my situation would you rather do the tree or the 5 boroughs?
im struggling with the decision, both pay the same.

Hi OP,rather say op then try and type your screen name, lol.Did Werner say you have to do the dollar tree account or is that your choosing? If you're only going to learn how to do logs I don't know why you would have to complete the 300 hrs.But anyway if you do just suck it up and please keep peace with your trainer.Meaning even though you have exp just listen to your trainer so you can get the training over with.

hi pattyj, u can just call me toddler :)
they didnt say i would have to do the 300 hrs, his words were actually "a week or two at most" but from what i hear about recruiters, im not sure i trust that.
i get along with most everyone. western said i would just have to do a week to get familiar with the logs.
western in training 375 a week no pet policy but nyc and so on bumping a dock.
werner in training 450 a week driver unload (dollar tree) pet policy no nyc and so on.
    #### man i dont know what to do.
hey puppage!! i live right on alps with a soon to be truck in the driveway!!! nic to meet you sir!
im currently working at custom bandag in stratford, im sure u know where that is. who are you working for?

Don't get hung up on which account you start with at Werner. One thing Werner is good about is letting you switch accounts as long as there is an opening, and most accounts have enough turnover there are frequent openings.

The recruiters usually offer the hard to fill positions. As soon as you finish orientation and are an official employee call driver placement, find out what all your options are, and put your name on all you're interested in. You don't have to switch when they call.

whatever you do...avoid the family dollar, dollar tree, dollar general accounts like the plaque.

that account is no place for a rookie. extremely tight backing, and rural routes and areas with low clearances and cmv restricted routes.

budweiser, walmart, menards, home depot all have good accounts.

What you could do, is when you are at orientaion ask if they will give you a road test... if you do good on the road test they can your training time down....

I also agree with tkpinxc... werner has several different accounts.. once you go to orientation you will be able to log onto the driver portal... from there go to driver placement, enter your zip code and it will bring up all the account in your area...

Some drivers like to family dollar or dollar tree accounts and some dont...

I am on a dedicated flatbed account and really like it...

That's a great IDEA yoda, I called my recruiter and from what I hear there not ALWAYS honest but he said my training should be only 70 hours of driving time. I'd hate to do that long but I'll just bite my tongue and just get thru it. I just need to get the verification on my record and I'll be able to go anywhere. All in due time.
