I change hub oil once yearly use lucas hub oil, even my steer axle, grease filled hubs with semi fluid grease once a year as well, check wheel bearing end play with a dial indicator and set .01-.05 of an inch, i do it every brake change as your almost to that point so might as well go the extra step and do it right. Clean the bearings and inspect and reassemble, never have had a spindle burn up and have never had to do a wheel seal on the road. Cheap insurance rather than watching your tandems pass you up and smash a car killing someone. I'm sure several others will say this is unnecessary but i do my own maintenance and it gives piece of mind
Alaska76 and rockyroad74 Thank this. -

I jack up all the wheels and get a 4 foot pry bar to check for slack bearings, king pins, tie rods, drag links, and bushings. Check ujoints and carrier bearing too. Measure brakes stroke. Look for dry rotted rubber hoses and chaffed airlines and wires. Do all this 2 or 3 times a year.
CellNet Thanks this.
