So is the process to get your twic card easier once you get your hazmat or do they still have to do a background check all over again? Basically I am saying that getting my hazmat was a hassle for me. Is twic just as much of a hassle or no?

It's an individual thing and it can go either way. Govt agencies can be really slow in getting the approval. Ironically it's homeland security who does the vetting on the TWIC and can take up to 30 days to get you cleared. If you've got your hazmat then the TWIC should be a piece of cake. Just remember too that once you're in the clear, you have to physically go to the specified office to pickup your new card.
    They won't mail it.
    Good luck.

Be sure to keep any and all of your paperwork concerning your Hazmat application as it will save you $$ when applying for your TWIC. Yes, you need to set up an appointment to get your TWIC and they will not mail it, have to show up in person. The closest office for me is just shy of three hrs. away but just how it is. Also, good luck.

Actually I just applied for my TWIC card 2 days ago and I DIDNT have an appointment! and one of the options was to have it mailed to my home.

Yes, they will mail it, things have changed. Read the thread I linked for some updates in the process.

I got my TWIC out of Commerce California and I still had to go and get fingerprinted even though I had my hazmat. It took about 7 business days for my TWIC card to be ready for me to pick it up in person

how long didit take you to get your hazmat after passing the test?here in FL the lady at the dmv said it will take from 60 to 90 days what a slow service !!!!the twic card is going through production delays for more than two months i think .Go in without taking an appointment .just take your passport and social security in case they ask For both. and you can choose to get it mailed to you or pick it up at the agency.best of luck

Your CDL and SS card should be fine but if you have any other forms of federal ID it couldn't hurt. When I got mine in CA all I needed was my CDL and SS card. I used my TWIC at the ports but it was just a flash pass which they never checked my pic on my TWIC to who I was. There was only one terminal at the LA port that actually had me insert my card, put my thumb in and enter my pin #. I think most drivers couldn't remember their pin # so they might have removed that system.
