The major GPS players like Garmin provide an interface (free software for lifetime maps customers) to utilize current maps for routing (and other uses), independent of an internet connection. (They allow you to install the map update on the device AND on the local computer)

Between this aspect of everyone who needs mapping abilities has a GPS device, and that fast internet access is widely available, it made no sense to Microsoft to continue to support a "dinosaur".

I liked it not only for routing, but if I was laying over, what was around in the area.

google does a good job of whats in the area.

    there are also apps.

    like texan says, antiquated.

there are lots of options to compete with msft. and once people learn how to use their phone as a gps transmitter to their laptop. gps receivers will soon be a thing of the past.

nothing lasts forever. S&T is one of those things.

Well that explains why there hasn't been a 2014 edition. That kind of sucks, as I have found it to be more useful than some of the other mapping software out there.
