You may have a little trouble finding good paying van freight OUT of Florida. Definitely do your lane match and makes some calls. Everytime I loaded out of Florida, back when I was still running van, I found loads by calling agencies using the Lane Match tool. Or, what I'll do sometimes, is do a nationwide search for freight paying over $4.00 per mile. You can find high paying freight that justifies the cost of a long deadhead. Just make sure you're still earning your target cpm over all miles driven.:biggrin_25520:

Sorry to see you come down to FL for your first run. This is the dead time of year for vans. At least you got a trailer though. Lane match is your friend.

It seems to me that every newbie here gets their 1st load and it goes to FL. Most see the good rate and jump on it.... sometimes that "good" rate isn't that great when you do a 500 mile bounce to Georgia to get to your next load. Just give it time and you'll learn the board and how things work. Too many guys lease on here and then give up after a few weeks because they can't handle self-dispatch and finding their own freight. Rule of thumb is, after about 6 months, you should have a pretty good hang of it all. Just make sure you are not too far into debt or those 6 months can break ya. Good luck and see ya out here

After my 1st trip from Charlotte, NC - Orlando, FL for repowered load, I decide to come up toward Jacksonville, FL and found the load alert that got me pick up at Savannah,GA (Aug.21) to Hickory NC (Aug.22).

This repowered load sure did pay me good for 570miles run LH 1500 and FSC was 267. Guess they let me used some of money to put some into deadhead 270 miles up to Savannah GA from Orlando today.

Had to load delivered to Hickory in the morning and I waited 5hr after appointment. Got $300 for detention which paid 100%! Woot! Now, I'm taking load 5miles away in Conover NC to Thomasville GA paying me good money on both d+h shipper and receiver.
Got my next 2 load booked for the weekend GA to AL to TX on Tuesday.
So far is good. Guess my first lesson FL gave me hard time but I'm sure I'll get used to it. :)

I also realized going to between 60 - 63mph def help on my fuel. I used to run 65-68 on company truck, but having my own truck is definitely take risk of fuel.

Yeah good ole GLF... I'm on one of their loads now that takes me back to the house. If you live in Charlotte, that load is usually always there for the taking

Ya I do 62 mph unless I am running late. I realized with Landstar that it's quality miles now not quantity.
