Getting ready to graduate from Smith & Solomon CDL Training School in Norristown, PA in the next few weeks. I CANNOT BE MORE SERIOUS when I say that I fear for ending up at a bad company. At the very beginning of school, I put an app into TMC, Maverick, Smith Transport, Schneider, Roehl, Prime, Covenant, and a couple other places I'm forgetting. TMC shot me down almost immediately, and that is who I was hoping to go with. Maverick told me to produce tax forms from previous employers (pretty sure they are all gone.). Every other company tells me to call back after a year of experience. It almost seems like I'm running out of options, and I'm going to have to go with one of the crappy 4 that everyone hears nightmares about (CRST, Swift, US Express, Western Express, Werner Enterprises). Any suggestions? I know I'm not entitled to have the best job in the world right out of school, and I understand I have to pay my dues, but I really dont want to deal with the horror stories of these companies. PLEASE HELP! ANY ADVICE WOULD BE GREAT!
dont want to get screwed!

What was the reason that TMC gave? For them to shoot you down that fast, its gotta be a shoddy work history, or driving record. Are you unable to provide a verifiable work history?

I asked the reason and they could not give me a reason other than "they did not know why it was denied, but it was denied. Thanks for applying." That really killed my moral I was really hoping to go with them. Work history is all valid. Have a misdemeanor charge (conspiracy simple assault.) Maybe that sealed the deal.

in the beginning rookies have to take what ever job they can until they have about 2 years of accident and ticket free experience before a good company will hire you,,the breaks of the game,,a company will out you in $200,000 of equipment and they are taking a RISK that you will not break their equipment or have an accident that could cost them millions or put them out of business,,you have to prove yourself,,

Look at the smaller companies in your area. It's got to be a better option than going to some of the bigger OTR companies that have a high turnover.

Look at Melton Truck lines, they high students, and have a similar load securement training course. They like to keep you on the road longer than TMC, but from what ive seen and heard, they are a pretty good company to go with as wel.
