Wow, you guys aren't very friendly. All I did was ask a question. If someone can actually help me then please reply and let me know what you think. Like I have already stated we go to Detroit on Tuesday so they will reset password then. We would just like to get on the road a little sooner if possible, if not thenwe will wait until tTuesday.

i fail to see how retreiving the password is going to get you on the road. TODAY. all it does, it block the computer from having it's settings changed. doesn't stop you from gettin on the road what so ever.

    but

as far as the password goes. that's done by the owner, not detroit. and it can be anything, besides a combination of 4 numbers.

cummins has a password zipper program that i beleive retreives the password so the mechanics can access and set it to blank fields.
i would assume it also works on detroits. and all other engine ecms.

I fail to wee why the truck can't be put to work today, the password wont make a difference.
As I asked before, is this an ex fleet truck we are talking about or not?
I have NEVER set a password on a truck I have owned, and I would say it is only the fleets that bother doing so, or their so called mechanics to be more accurate.

Okay so the shut off light keeps turning on while we are driving down the road. We have replaced every oil sensor and temp sensor so now we have had it in the shop but the mechanic needs the password to clear all of the old codes and figure out what the new one is, so we can get it fixed. That is why it can't be put to work yet and that is why I asked the simple question. We have only owned it for about three weeks and according to the mechanic yes it is an ex fleet truck.

And which fleet? Like pulling hens teeth here, getting all the information in one post.
I would guess that a call to the fleets shop would have gained the password though, so long as you can prove to them that you bought it etc.
I have never been required to enter a password to clear a code though. That is normally reserved for changing parameters etc. So something isn't right as far as that goes. I have read codes on a LOT of engines, of all makes, and have yet to need any code to do so

I am like the middle man here so quit being rude. I am trying to give you the info you want but all of you just saying is we don't need a password. We have no flipping clue what fleet owned it, we bought it from a random person who also doesn't know the fleet. We need the password for the mechanic to read codes with his diagnostics machine. We have already done the blink thing to get codes. But have no way of clearing them so we can get down to the actual problem. I hate to state the obvious but we can't really put it to work when the shut down light keeps coming up and shutting the truck down. So that's why we need password.

Rude? Really? Wow, thought I was offering advise to someone that hasn't a clue.
I have never needed a password to clear a code. Fact.
A call to the fleet/company that owned the truck initially will garner the code. Fact.
In your initial postings, you made no mention of it being an ex fleet truck, the flashing lights, and so on. Thus my perfectly accurate statement about pulling hens teeth. took two pages to get to that minor detail......
The company should be able to be found easily enough. Call Freightliner (guessing here, as no mention of the truck neither), and have them run the VIN. That will give the history of the truck, including who owned it etc.
Sorry for trying to help you help yourself. Here is a hint...the more information YOU provide, the easier it is for us to help YOU.

You do not need a password to diagnose anything, you need a different mechanic. The passwords are only for preventing perameter changes, they have nothing to do with diagnostics.

The backdoor password changes everytime you key on. You need to be hooked to the ECM with Diagnostic Link, then call Detroit. They will tell you how to get the backdoor code, then give you the temp password.

Your problem is probably wiring, not a sensor.
