Also you need to know how to figure the actual price VS pump price. If you pay the fuel tax (as you will at most companies) then you need to know what the actual price is. If you drive for a company like JTC (they actually pay your fuel tax, it never comes out of your settlement) then you want to only look at what is the cheapest pump price and don't worry about the fuel taxes.

    BigKid2 Thanks this.

Well I'm glad it works for u. I have had good outcomes doing it the way I do, but I do understand the what u mean about high price fuel states might rethink that part

I buy my fuel the same way BigKid does. I always buy the cheapest I can, and I get to know where the higher places are, so I can try to avoid needing fuel there. I don't think I've ever bought a gallon in Kentucky, but buy lots in Illinois.

I met a driver once who swore the only reason he made money is because he always bought fuel 50 gallons at a time. He claimed that if you bought more than that, you made less money. He couldn't explain how his "system" worked though. Wonder why...

I am still here, yes. I don't make it on this site often enough. And I've obviously let this thread go. Others here clearly have ACT covered. I don't know what new info I can bring that isn't already out there. Just that I've been here over two years now and still love it here.

Since you've been doing this for a couple of years, azcardniz, I assume you started as a company driver like the rest of us. I hope you come back soon enough to read this! My question is this:

How long did it take you to stop thinking like a company driver and start thinking like a contractor? Things like learning where the cheap fuel is (easy) and how much to put in your tanks and when to prepare you for a fill-up yet giving yourself enough weight to pull a load legally (not so easy.)

I am looking for the last trucking job I'll have (after I finish a state-imposed, um, 'vacation' next March) and want to consider a lease option with a good company; I need more challenge than just pointing my nose from Point A to Point B but I also want to be rewarded for staying out weeks on end. ACT seems like a pretty good consideration.

So I am curious is anybody still with ACT here? I am looking to make a move over to them in a few weeks.
