I'm having a hard time getting back into trucking. My schooling is invalid for some carriers. I've been advised to take a refresher course, but I don't have the money for it. Any suggestions? I'm in southern California.
Any advise for drivers with some experience but haven't driven for more than 3 years?

Insurance companies pretty much dictate the rules, no driving in 6 mo time, no job with that company. Have you tried one of the companies with school training, you might have to stay with them for a year. Stay away from CRE. Prime is ok, company drive the lightweight trucks that are governed. I hear bad tales with a lot of other companies, checking threads on here might be a good idea. So many changes in just 3 years too.

Try some of the larger companies like Swift. They are self insured like most mega carriers.

Sure..most state run employment offices offer schooling at no charge provided you take work in the industry. Nothing has changed other than the hours of service regarding 34 hr reset and must have over 168 hrs between them. Mandatory half hour break at the 8 hr on duty.

talk with some of your local driving CDL schools. Some of them have recruiters connected that will coordinate your school being paid by a trucking company as long as you go and work for them for "x" amount of months.

KKW Trucking in Pomona will probably hire you.
