What was the circumstances on your conviction? Was it accidental? Car accident, or ?, or was it something from violent tendency? If it was due to a violent behavior, maybe driving a 80,000 ibs vehicle not a suitable job for you, receiving a life sentence suggest to me the latter, only doing 10years doesn't seem fitting for a lost life, sorry

Yes the possibility is out there for a job. Canada won't let you cross border but plenty of work in the USA. Hold your head high. You paid your penalty, Good luck.

There are many varying circumstances for murder 2 and below. You dont know his story. Could have been a fight, negligence or many other variations of those. If it was not premeditated and a person genuinely reforms themselves then they deserve a second chance. Its safe to say nearly all of us have been in a street fight at least once. All it takes is one punch in the right spot to kill someone. An accident could happen to any of us. Unless there is a pattern of criminal behavior then I dont think a person deserves the rest of their life behind bars if they show they have changed.

I dont know this guys story so I couldnt speculate on the time he served.

I'm sure the OP expected snide comments about his past, which is why he said he wasn't going to sugar coat anything.

That said, I hope a mod is watching closely because these kind of topics seem to be a hot button issue around here. God forbid the OP starts another thread asking if such and such company does hair follicle testing...

I see him as someone that did something wrong and served his time. Point blank and simple. If you guys and gals have questions for him, how about send him a message to keep it off the forum. He will most likely not even entertain your questions about specifics on a murder case over a public forum!

As for the job, I think this disqualifies you for Hazmat, TWIC, and Canada travels. Some companies will not even touch you because you have to report in to your parole officer. Even though you are on the lowest threat level, one mad action and your raised up now having the company needing to bring you home every 30-45 days. I mean by all means, the worst you can do is call around! Put it out there just as you did in here! Just don't beat yourself up when you hear no too many times. in 25 no's you only need that 1 yes to start showing that you are worth the risk. Keep your head up!

There are many driving jobs locally like cement trucks, dump trucks, paving crews/road construction etc. You don't always need experience for these jobs even though they ask for it. I got on with a heavy haul outfit right after I got my license and was out on my own the first day.
