I have noticed some of the used trucks have so little miles on them almost worth going used. Some of them have 60-80k on them for 20-30k less in overall price of the truck with the full warranty intact. Choices =)
Im a KW fan my self and may go with one of there T680's if I come over from where I am now. =)
You aint gonna believe this... Yet Another Ic Choice thread move over DFO!

Nice, I'm on the fence about coming over to the IC program. I have been with my current company a few years now an I know what I can get away with here and where the loads are for here. Tho from what I read on this board it looks like it would be a decent choice. Would be nice to shake the dispatcher off my truck as it feels like he has been riding on my rear for far to long.
Another problem is I live in Idaho and why Refer loads are pretty strong over here dry loads seem to be scares and the the linehaul rates seem to drop like a rock once you pass the Rockies. (I'm on Per mile currently as a O/O) -

You'd have to run into Washington to get home plenty in and out of there over 100 loads both ways between now and the 7th -

So 37 days and 9991 miles into being a IC what can i say?
Its like being tossed into the ocean and having to learn how to swim.
The first thing is that class on Thursday isn't enough to really get you ready to work that load board, so i encourage everyone who is about to be an ic or just started to work with one of these vets that is willing to help you learn the strategies of working the board i failed to do that. I had to try it my way and it wasn't pretty.
The truck (KW680) has been great its not getting the economy that i hoped but pulling 37k plus through mountains never is pretty im stilling getting around 7.5 but when things flatten out i can average as much as 8.6, It does however still need an alignment and a trip to KW for a service advisory that's out on it.
So out of all my weeks i made profit only 1 week the second week every other week i've brought in 100-400 dollars. WHY? Because I wasn't booking my loads correctly or i was mismanaging fuel along with simply running to fast.
Being I IC is pretty simply once you learn the basics or simply pay attention to what the vets are telling us.
So I pretty much typed this because i wanted to give some tips to new drivers, and i know the vets have said it in their posts but it wont hurt to say it again So i Encourage everyone to post a tip here for the New folks because i know the month i had would've put others out of business.
So my tips from failing the first couple weeks.
1. Find out what your load really is worth
Pull up google maps and find out the true miles to see what the load REALLY PAYS that load from Chesapeake va seems good until you realize you lose cpm on the actual route you use.
2. Book Em in pairs
Dont Get stuck in a dead zone by booking 1 load at a time i did this and got stuck twice
Also whatever you aim to make per mile (1.50 for me) by pairing em you can take that 1.75 and a 1.25 and still balance out unless that 1.25 is 45k in which case id walk away.
3. Book through the weekend
I got stuck by booking one at a time and ended up in a dead area with no load on a Saturday i sat until Monday morning. So save yourself the hassle and lost profit book your loads all through the weekend unless you're going home
4. Research the INs And OUTs
An extension of #2 look at both loads before deciding to book you might have a great load going in but nothing but a trailer of rocks coming out so make sure there is actually a load coming out before you book the first maine and mass will do that to you. You get up there and then nothing but crap loads that take you deeper into the abyss.
5.Keep notes
Im a numbers guy and i was really keeping track of my progress i did it this week and it made a world of difference (see next post)
6. Have Fun
This isnt a job i havent worked a day since i signed my lease. We are getting paid to see the country Ithaca New York the roads coming into there make for some beautiful site seeing.
Post anything you have guys And thanks for readingNewtrucker48 and knuckledragger Thank this. -
Seeing my progress helped me make better load decisions my only thing to work on now is my time management.rickybobby and knuckledragger Thank this.
