Either way if Conway drivers are making more on the CPM/Hourly rate they are still losing their ### on the healthcare premiums and no pension. 401k IS NO SUBSTITUTE FOR A LIFETIME GUARANTEED DEFINED BENEFIT PENSION that is paid for by the employer regardless of matching. Paying for high cost insurance out of pocket is still real dollars being deducted from real wages so no they aren't making the same as UPS Freight.

The time value of money these guys are giving up by footing the bill on health insurance and funding the majority of a 410k is enormous. They should have unionized the second their pension was stolen from those guys. Those Conway guys work their butts off driving truck, freezing on open aired docks so customers can have what they need now it's time to get some things back.

When I left it was still over 26 a hour. But after the contract was voted, in 2019 it will be at 28 a hour.

if you like knowing, so you can live a normal life, work under a contract. a promise dont mean ####. any HONEST employer would make sure their employees are not at will, and have pay and benefits in writing.....

    ...i agree
The key word here is HONEST , ....any company who is not willing to come to the carpet on important issues ,should be held accountable ,otherwise we can only expect cowardly self serving policies ,lowest pay possible ,unsafe working conditions ,unorganized scheduling and being treated like a dog for sticking up for yourself ......if you think for a minute these people are honest up standing with high morals ,integrity & such ,better think twice
Those days are over with and nothing will change the course we are on .....sad but true

Not even close on the employee count, try 22k total employees in North America, 80% are drivers, most of which do the dock work as well. Sarcastically we call ourselves Con-way's traveling dock crew.

Last week Con-way had a nation wide meeting @ the majority of the barns and changed the pay structure from 47 pay scales nationally to just 4 (regionally) The health insurance renewal just came out as well, it does not look like there is much of a price difference this year from last. They also changed the time it took to reach top rate from 5 to 3 years.

These are some positive steps in repairing some damage that has been done. I'm not going to beat the company drum, but there are drivers in my barn that are receiving $3-4/r pay raises. They are not going to vote for the union. As well, statistically our driver pool is very top heavy with senior drivers and most are not going to vote pro union. Con-way just basically sewed up this hole with this deal and if that don't work, they will send drivers from other states to Laredo, USB, ULX or where ever need to take care of the freight as they move it around these few terminals and demonstrate the fact they don't require those barns any longer. Basically choking them off.

It's starting to happen already, if you run for Con-way and are on line haul, check out the sub-service "U" and "L" freight. OR the destinations that are blowing up around these few barns that are rattling.

I don't know if the union is right or wrong, it seems though that Con-way has had much success without them. I have 24 drivers in my barn, none make less than 70K a year, the top guys 104K. Most guys don't wanna work that many hours anyway, Con-way will stuff your pockets full if you let them, and yes $25.41/.60 mile is a liveable wage.
