After a LOT of research, it looks like my friend and I are planning on attending SAGE in either Montana or Wyoming. Housing is a factor. Their tuition is very competitive, except for the fact of finding affordable lodging for the month or so we'll be there.

Schneider sounded like a good possibility, but too many factors about investing so much and possibly not being able to pass, after signing for the tuition and owing even if you don't pass CDL A license test, deter us from going that route. Their advanced driver training program, ADTC, for inexperienced, licensed drivers, sounds pretty good with 7 days in classroom/simulators and 7-10 OTR with a trainer at no cost to student (includes room and board).

We were hoping to train as a team together for OTR and found one company that will allow us that....Covenant...we've heard good and bad about that company but maybe for the buddy team OTR training and experience it won't be too bad for six months to a year. If anyone knows of a company that has OTR training for teams, so that can stay together for that period of time, please let me know and thanks, in advance!

Looking forward to beginning and appreciate this forum, A LOT!

p.s. My brother just got on with KKW (?) anyone ever heard of this company?

    adams8 Thanks this.

Agree with others sounds like your friend in MI found a fly by night mill that'll train you, get you the cdl then leave you out in the cold when no company will hire you as they weren't a certified school. Check with local community colleges and see if they offer truck driver training. Most of them do. The training will be thorough, certified, and most importantly cheap. They'll probably have companies actively recruiting you during the training process as well. It shouldn't cost more than $1000 at a community college and shouldn't take more than 3 or 4 weeks. I wish I had known that years ago before I got my CDL. I got mine at a PTDI certified school and paid $3000 (9 years ago) for 15 days of schooling. I was recruited while schooling and did get a job as promised but paid a little more than I should have. Some people chose to sign on with trucking companies that paid off the tuition as long as they worked with them for a year or more. I chose to pay for my own and it worked out well for me I had it paid off in about 8 months.

PDTI not PTDI :biggrin_25523: It was a long time ago I'm a little rusty on those terms. But anyhow, yep, PDTI is the certification most reputable companies look for when they go to hire newly graduated student drivers.

My husband and I are looking for someone to train us to drive a Class C truck with a trailer. Because we are going to buy a Super C motorhome. It will also have a drive-in trailer for our car behind it. It is a diesel truck. We would just like to get some experience on the road and handling the trailer before we buy it. We do not have to have our CDLs to drive this truck, however, but we would like to feel more comfortable driving it. We will be willing to pay for someone to train us. They will need to have their own truck being that ours is not built yet. Does anyone know of a way to do this or someone who would do this? Is there a private school or private trainers that teach this sort of thing? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
