It's been a rough year for my first year as a cdl driver. I've made a little money, got a little experience, and was offered a spot with Groendyke. I have 12 days of gas station deliveries left followed by my first 28 day training period with Groendyke. I'm looking forward to getting my feet wet with tankers. Hopefully not literally. Only thing I'm unsure of is if I will be able to pay my bills. I'm gonna be paid by load percentage and I have no idea what those loads go for. As long as I can make ends meet for the next year, I will be able to get on with Trimac hopefully. Ethos tell your boss to save me a spot lol. Is there anything a Groendyke can tell me about the coming month so I know what to expect?

Hey congrats man! Keep us informed about how they treat you. I have talked with many of their drivers and all have been happy. You might have found a home.

Have driven for a (mostly) tanker outfit hauling a variety of Haz. At one time while I was researching, looked at both Trimac and Groendyke, talked to Trimac, did not talk to Groendyke, despite that in my estimation at the time, Groendyke was the better company. Had taken some 18 months off, 5 of it tooting around the country with 3 dogs in the car and one of my trucking employers fell off my 3-years, meant that could still go with Trimac, could not go with Groendyke.

Just my impression, but was that Groendyke was better than Ruan and Ruan was better than Trimac.

Just my impression. Went with Gordon. Seems like with all the jobs out there, even the top tier companies have slipped their requirements.

You will be OK with GrowaDick.lol What we call them around here. They are good company. Their pay is decent. In DFW the min is like $43 I think. Would be surprised if they don't come out with some raises soon as most others around here have passed them. Ours is $50 and $60 on weekends. Always have work which is very important with this economy. Our % pay is similar. No one tells you the rate they charged. Many of ours are mileage based. Out past about 75 it goes to %. That was just raised to 27% couple of months ago. Make sure and remember what pays what. Once you get to know dispatch and they trust and like you try to get the ones you know pay a little better. And take the crap ones off their hands too if they need you to. You will either love or hate it. Good luck.

$43 a load min. Could be a 5 minute drive up to 15-20 miles. Sliding scale. Not sure what theirs is. Ours is $50 then 20-25 $55 and so on. More per load for night shift. Weekend. Tankers don't work for beans like $43 a day. That is for England, Schneider, Stevens, FFE and other rats.
Groendyke is a NATIONAL carrier not just regional.

Differnt companies pay differently. We get $58 to take a pre-loaded tank from our yard, go next door, deliver and return. !.5 hr tops. All our loads pay %. When I started tank, I was with another company. some loads ended up taking most of the day for @ 125. Like Big Duker said, there are crap loads. And I don't have a problem doing my share of them. In most terminals there is one or two customers that are your bread and butter. You try to keep them happy.
