I just got back home after renewing my CDL in Davison. Since I have my medical long form on file in Lansing all I had to do was let them make another copy of my card, fill out a form of about 8-10 question sign it, take the eye test and get my picture taken and give them $60. They will probable require you to fax a copy of your long form from your last physical I would think.

    tsavory Thanks this.

Nope just a wallet card. She didn't need the long form. She just needed the id# and expiration date

If you took your last physical prior to last June I'm very surprised they didn't require the long form, the new requirement says you have to. Maybe your physical was after that and the Doctor sent it in to the State???

When did they start doing this?. I have (had?) a Florida CDL, but I don't currently drive a commercial vehicle. Is my FL license now suspended because I don't have a valid med card?. Is it really the case that I would have to retake all the tests if I wanted to keep the CDL portion?.

I am currently overseas so can't exactly just pop into the local drivers license office to check my license status.

I would contact the Florida DMV, Secretary State or what ever they call it. Every State is activating the new system differently. But the end result will be the same for everybody. No current medical on file equals no CDL. Just another example of government stupidity.

It will be at least another year before I can get back over there, so it looks like I am out of luck. Even though I haven't used it for years I always cherished my CDL because it was something I worked for and having it meant a "plan B" if my current situation didn't work out.

I will try to call DMV some time next week anyway.

you have up to one year to get your CDL back without retesting. But once you are downgraded you can not legally drive a CMV until you submit your medical card. So you can't just keep driving.
