You would probably learn more from the private school. All the training in SLC does is get you to pass the test, then you go out with trainer to learn to drive. I would weight the costs involved, the training in SLC is about 3k, but if you stay with the company for a year, you only pay a portion of it back. Talk to your recruiter and see if they would accept the school in phoenix or not, some will not accept outside schools. Even if you have your CDL, most companies will have you take a short course (about 2 weeks) to learn the latest laws and get you familiar with over the road driving.

Curiosity is getting the best of me after talking with a buddy of mine about being a trainer for Central.

I understand they are lease drivers, but I seem to remember you took a cut in per mile pay if you trained. This was all before swift took over (I left shortly after).

Do central lease drivers still start at 1.045 base or has that changed?

I left 3 months ago. The week I left, supposedly, they bumped Company drivers up from .28 cpm to .36 cpm and the starting lease driver pay was 1.075 cpm according to what the Qualcomm spam I'd receive daily.

I posted that because after almost 2 months there was not a single post on the thread. Thought the thread had died. I too still have my CRS jacket I got when I was there 5 years ago.

Can you tell me the step by step process of quitting Central/Swift and their treatment? Where did you turn in your trailer and could you have picked any Swift Terminal to end it all? PM if you prefer. Thanks

I brought my truck to wvc. My dispatcher got me a load home to empty out the truck, then a load to wvc. I was a L/O so I had to wait for the guy who was taking over the lease to sign the paperwork. It was OK though, because my wife and kids drove out and we had a week long vacation. SLC has some great activities for kids.
Once the vacation was over we drove back to Yakima. My dispatcher said I could have gone to Pasco, but the guy getting the truck was going to be in WVC.
