I've been hearing that I need to give references. I have worked fast food for the past 2 years and nothing else. When I fill out the reference page, will it matter if I leave that reference out and not list anything at all? I'm 27 with a clean driving record. Never received a ticket and never been locked up.
Or should I include in the reference that I worked fast food.
Going to Swift trucking school. Do i need to give a reference for fast food job?

Are you talking about references or past employers?References are usually friends or co workers who have known you for a few years and they rarely actually contact them.If its past jobs then yes list them. Why would you not list it?If you leave it blank they will want to know what you have done the past 2 years.Just list it and go from there. They could care less where you worked.Just list it and avoid any problems.

I'd list it. They will probably call to verify dates. I wouldn't worry about getting a bad reference from a fast food place if that's what's on your mind. They contact enough of those places I'm sure they know how petty some 21 year old "managers" can be in that industry.

don't worry 'bout itmje and bubbagumpshrimp Thank this. -
List it. They're just calling to confirm that you worked there and didn't burn the place down. Unless you were terminated because you stole something, assaulted another employee (or customer), or anything else along those lines...you should be fine.
My $.02 on references...I don't fill out references unless they're required fields.mje Thanks this. -
Why did you choose Swift? Swift isn't the worst place (CR England, CRST, and Werner are worst) but it's close. Constant complaint I hear from Swift drivers at truck stops "I think my dispatch is trying to get me to quit, by starving me of loads."mje Thanks this. -
Swift won't check your past employment until you are actually at orientation.
Even then, it may be on the last day.
But you can be SURE that they will check all periods of employment and unemployment for the past 10 years.
And it may not just cover what you put on your application.
If they do a background check and find that you have omitted things, you will be sent home on your own dime. The Challenger and mje Thank this.
