Hurst, that 03 you're looking at, is it a 6NZ or an MBN?

I'm going to look at it after Thanksgiving.
Would it be posted on the side plate on the motor?
He told my wife it was set at 500hp. She said it was a single turbo, different then the ACERT I have in this one. She is mechanically inclined enough to know the difference. Unlike our son,.. LOL
And for an 03,.. that was the last year for the single turbo right? Whats the difference between the 6NZ and MBN? I know the 6NZ is coveted,.. but if its an MBN should I be weary? Is that potentially why it was rebuilt before 800k? I mean I have a crusty old BXS and I'm looking at the odometer right now. 1182003 miles and perpetrating an energizer bunny. I need another bunny.
HurstKonstanTrucker Thanks this. -
My old T660 had 3.25 and I thought that was a tall gear. 2.64,.. wow. Had a 475 C15 that averaged 6.21 mpg @70 mph pulling a reefer loaded near gross all the time. Ran I80 coast to coast. It was gov @70 and I always had it maxed out.
So I am of the opinion that a tall gear with a big torq motor would be more efficient. 70 mph was 1400 RPM in that truck. Pulled the hills just fine, even with that tall gear. Oh,. it was an 18 spd. Which I thought was odd spec to haul reefer,. but all his trucks were like that. -
Well, my main question to all the posters here is: Are those mpg reported based on fuel top-off to next top-off, or are they based on the computers? Computers are always off, my old volvo 780 computer was always off like 1.5 - 2.5 mpg, my new cascadia is usually off only about 0.2 mpg. Also, no one states if they are including the idling, or if have an APU for idling.

2003 Freightliner Century, series 60 det, 10 speed smart shift (with clutch), 358 rears, LP 22.5 rubber all the way around. Run 63 to 70 all the time, rarely under 63, sometimes above 70. My lifetime average is 6.7 MPG, that is averaging 36,000 lbs per load on flatbed.
I do over-size also, about 10 percent of my loads every year are over-size, when hauling over-size I mash the fuel and don't let off. While hauling over-size I am lucky to see 5 mpg. I run from southeast to Midwest (mo, sd, il, in, ky, tx, ok) and west (Utah, Colorado, Nevada, Arizona) occasionally to northwest.
Light loads (5,000-10,000) are anywhere between 8 and 8.5 mpg depending on terrain and weather related conditions.
Empty with trailer 9 mpg
I idle almost all the time, rarely do I shut engine off unless I have to for some reason, always have been that way.
I might add this is also some higher loads done with a mid-roof. (Added drag)
All these calculations are done on paper, by taking the difference in mileage from fill up to fill up and dividing it by gallons that I just added to tank.
