I just bought a dash cam last week. After I dropped the truck off at the OC, I rented a car and drove the 2 hours home. I don't have a laptop only a iPad in the truck, so I could not see if the dash cam got any of it. Got home, looked at the video and sure enough I got what I needed. Company name and license plate number. Small company out of Fresno CA. I now have my laptop with me.
On the video, the guy is having trouble pulling out of his parking space. He backs up twice, getting closer to my truck. Finally he hits me. He gets out and looks, see what he did before I got out there and than bolts. You can see my truck and his trailer rock when he hits me.
Called Green Bay to relay the info and called the Marion County Sheriff to update them also.
The police did not even come out. All I got was a phone call from the officer who was making the report. The F/J was a joke.
Got my truck back at noon today. Going to Chico CA. 473 miles. Now waiting on a infamous DFO trailer search.Last edited: Nov 20, 2014

By the way...your my hero!!! Nice job with getting a dash cam! Glad you were able to identify the guy that should be unemployed by the weekend!!! What type of Dash Cam do you have?? Is it 12V?? Were the police helpful once you got the video??

I called the Marion County Sheriffs office today. They said the officier who took the initial report would call me sometime today. I don't expect much from him. Sad to say.
When I called Green Bay. They were very interested in the video.
We will see. I may post the video. The dash cam put in 3-3 minute segments.
More tomorrow. -

Regardless, the driver and company are still liable for civil damages. -
So this month has been extremely productive so far. We will have driven 21748 miles by the time we drop off this load in Sacramento Sunday morning. The last three months we have averaged 22k miles a month so we'll have that average beaten by the time we get TAH on Tuesday. I believe this has to do with changing Tier levels to a higher level and because of the holidays. Week 1 was 8118 miles, week 2 was 6286 miles and this week will be 7355. What we have learned so far....
1. Time means more than miles. I get more upset when I lose two hours looking for an empty trailer than I do by losing time in heavy traffic. If you have the time you can make up the miles and nothing sucks worse than getting a choice assignment that you can't do because you're short on hours.
2. When things don't work out on one assignment than take a deep breath and relax.....The next assignment usually makes up for it.
3. Stick to your 9!!! I cannot stress the importance for a driver to stick to a 9 hour shift of line 3 and line 4 time. If you are doing it right you can do 540 miles every shift and NEVER run out of time. I have drivers I have taken under my wing and that is the hardest thing for them to realize. My son and I work 12 hour shifts with 9 of the 12 on line 3 or line 4. If for some reason we are on a "Just in Time" assignment that requires a little pushing we adjust our shifts but still stick to 9 hours. An example would be instead of 12 hour we run a 10 hour shift. By doing that we can run 1400 miles in a 24 hour period. You can't do it too many days in a row but occasionally you can and when your sitting at a dock for a live load you can get back to your normal schedule.
All for now....time to drive my 9....In Big Spring Nebraska headed to Sacramento. Already know where I'm stopping before I even start driving.Grijon, mattbh23 and Running Bear Thank this. -

Driving and on-duty time on a paper log. Having only 70 hours to "work" in an 8 day time period you have to watch your time. 9 hours on-duty/drive time everyday means you should never run out of hours. It's actually closer to 8:43 but we round it to 9.
Grijon, Running Bear and 2ndAct Thank this.
