I would agree but here is the situation in our industry, we have two types of training, one is schooling to get past the simple tests to get a cdl and the other is so called "training" that is supposed to train the driver to drive the truck when they reach employment which is acceptable to call that training with a "trainer" actual training when it is barely that. Much of the time drivers coming out of school have no clue what they are supposed to know let alone know how to safely drive a truck according to industry practices with two part "training".
So the question is how can one judge the training when the training for the CDL isn't completed enough by our own standards?
They can't.

They are????????????????? And all this time I thought the new DMV office was located in the Toysrus store. If you take the time to read many of the stories on here what the students are going thru you would see they're not teaching them hardly anything.Shools are overpriced because they teach maybe a forth of what should be a lot more then that.Schools are partially to blame but it mostly falls on the carriers for how they train. They use students for team loads and the trainer don't have the time to teach the correct way.Students are turned loose long before they are ready. There are many trainees that ask questions on here rather then their trainer, that says a lot about what kind of training he is receiving.Bottom line is companies could care less how the student does they just want him or her to hurry up and get qualified.I do think companies shouldn't use trainees as part of a team operation and trainer should not be allowed to drive unless in a dangerous situation. All this is what im hoping FMCSA will focus on.
