Bringing my dog OTR: What to bring/What to expect?

Oh - you're just not learning ARE YOU!!!!

Back to the shelter, and pick up that dog doo - this time with your teeth!

You would be amazed what women say about their men when they aren't around,lol.

 

this is gonna sound stupid but here goes. as to the water bowl. get one that has a lid. i know, obvious right? well, after stepping in my dogs water bowl and spilling it every where for the 27,849 time, i finally did.

beef jerkey. get the good stuff like jack links... don't skimp on the treats man. your dog will know if your holding out.

other than that, even with a big dog i'd suggest a "flexi-lead". the kinda leash that extends out. just made my life easier. oh, and you will talk to your dog... and it will look at you like you are crazy. it's awesome.

 

I bring my 110lb Rotti on the road with me. What I have done is convert the passenger seat to one large bed. She has doggy dreams and kicks in her sleep. So sleeping back in the bunk with me is not an option.

As for what to bring,.. I bring nothing but a bag of food and lots of bottled water and her leash. Thats it.

I give her one big long walk in the morning. 1 or 2 during the day and then 1 long walk before I go to sleep. She's 8 yrs old now and besides having her head out the window all day,.. she is very content to sleep for hours on end.

So if you have a very active dog, I'm not sure how well that would go over. My little girl is not that active. She lays out on the back porch most of the time when home.

Ignore the negative driver!! That aside, make sure you pay attention to your dog's signals. I have a 35 Lb German Sheppard mix. I could tell when she had to go because she started to hop up and down when she really needed out. Until she started hopping every time I stopped the truck. I made her wait for me to finish tarping a load last week and she got mad at me. 5-minute potty break on my bed!! Lol. Sleeping on that board under what use to be a bed taught me my tarping can wait! Lol. 4 months in and she almost has me trained. Plenty of chew toys are good too, unless you want to replace curtains, carpets, and seats. Best of luck.

 

I am a big animal lover former dog cat groomer but gave it up to make real money in trucking. Bringing a dog is NOT cruel. I have seen people that would not feed their dogs or let them sit in their poop and let them live in a wired cage.
Trucking is not one of them. What do dogs do all day..sleep....and wait for owners to get home..
i don't see how waiting in the seat or sleeper berth is being cruel.
WHAT I THING IS CRUEL is someone judging another person cuz it doesn't fit their lifestyle.

 

Dogs dont care where they are. My dog would stay in a 6x8 closet with me if it meant staying together. She whines for hours when I leave her at home. Any car or truck that drives by and she's right at the window looking for me. Drives my wife nuts.

My little girl is perfectly happy in the truck. Like I stated,.. she's not that active to begin with. She is a very lazy pooch. Plus no one gets near my truck with out a warning from her. If you and your dog are content to be together all day then I wouldnt care what anyone else says.
