There will be a plug on the side of the solenoid housing. Hook the filter back up, no use in junking a pump or injectors by running unfiltered fuel.

It should be where the tee comes out in this picture.

You also have to watch the old trucks had muffler problems were the muffler baffles would break loose and rattle up restricting the exhaust

Multiple things to look at for sure. Had a 76 W900 with a NTC 290 that got weak on power then harder to start, found water in the fuel lines and fuel tank, needless to say had to have pump redone. Our 92 L9000 at work has a N14 that fell on its face, our in house parts replacer worked on it for a week and never found the problem. I stopped in one Friday and he had it running, still working on it, I hit the throttle on the pump a few times and could barely make out a noise, turns out the air intake bolted to top of manifold had corrosion build up so bad it broke the mounting ears off the air intake housing and was losing air through the gaskets so it had no air pressure from turbo. Look for the little things first, pics may help here too...? Good Luck.

If you have been running big power before this, a 350 is going to feel gutless. I was running a 475 3406E years ago, and got into a 370 for a trip, and wondered what happened to the "beef?"

well i plumbed new filter setup, generic base, new lines from tank to pump. and now system now pulls from bottom of tank instead of the way the kw tanks have a tube that comes from top to bottom.

truck still runs the same way falls on its face on inclines which arent many here in fl, and i cant think.of letting of throttle at highway speeds cause it will take a while to.regainspeed again. it felt a little bit better. i just now called one of my buddys and he told me to.turn screw in the actual throttle shaft out 2 turns counterclockwise to give it more pressure, im waiting to get unloaded it does feel peppier on throttle from blipping pedal looks like a bit more smoke out stack.when reved to lets see how she rides back.

You have an issue with the pump and you are just randomly screwing with it, there are legitimate suggestions on this thread you started, but some good old boy you know told you to start adjusting stuff with out any #### explanation of what it does or how it affects your engine and you do that first?

Your not dealing with a #### cat, you are dealing with a big cam 4 cummins with low flow cooling where if you turn the wrong screw it over heats and you you junk an engine. SMFH.

well i dont have a fuel.pressure guage to check.rail pressure thats number #1. whst i dont understand is how there isnt one quick idea as to.why a mechanical cummins isnt pulling load up hill under power. all low gears power fine and feel as if i can pull a house of its foundation but when you throw hifh gear theres absouletly no peppyness or power as there was in the low range gears.

it feels as if theres somesort of governor on it or something,i checked and it will rev 2400 from idle. to my.understanding there isnt much more left to check its fuel which spools up.turbo higher thus making truck.run out at a higher speed right now it feels as if theres a limit on fuel goin into engine, like its choking up underload. as you go.up a hill truck backs down in rpm and as you come down hill naturally it pucks up speed.

Build a stinger and put in the pump and be done with it.....

    1/8" drill bit
    1/8" pop rivet
    super glue
pair of side cutters or dikes as I call them.
Just kidding don't go that route, most people do more harm from simply not knowing the do's and do nots of a stinger.

when I drove for H&W I had a 1988 K100, 365 hp 855-9 SPD. Castrated so bad it was almost gutless, but being a company truck you didn't mess with it. We was hauling tubs from Bethleham steel in Penn to CSX in Raceland, KY. Pulled a little oldschool trick and was then out pulling a Pete hood with a castrated 3406 on I-79, couldn't outrun him but I could pass him before I got to the top, and never turned a bolt on the truck. Look for the little things first. How does the engine rev while in neutral? Snappy or sluggish? Does it belch a small puff of black smoke when you crack the throttle? Checked the fuel filters? I mean actually empty them on a rag and look for dirt / water?

    flc120 Thanks this.

well she does burp a lil black poof when you first rev, then it clears. throttle response from idle is very snappy, revs real quick without hanging up on rev like ive seen many cummins do. explain to.me more about the stinger?

It could be more that a fuel issue, a pt pump doesn't stop producing pressure to cause a low power issue in the high side of the transmission, it could be in the STC system control valve. Have you checked for leaks in the line that feeds the AFC?

Spend the money and buy a 300psi gauge and plumb it in and go for a drive with it hanging on the mirror.

Stingers aren't good for anything but rpm, they allow you to override the governor spring, that engine is fine turning 2400 rpm.
