To clarify for a second time since you must have missed what I said. There in NO Lease Purchase at Stevens Transport. None, Nada. You will not lease a truck with a purchase at the end. There is a purchase program bt it is seperate from the Lease program.

I think highlighting the fact that other industries are quickly moving to a 25-30hr work week to avoid Obamacare is an important point. Many people have been cut from 40 to 30 or less and the hourly rate has not been changed to adjust for it. Did people really think that employers would not find a way around this when they voted for it. DOH! (enough politics).

So many TTR readers just use that phrase "lease purchase" in a very unspecific, willy-nilly, generic fashion instead of considering the meaning behind the term that I have decided to define them.

Lease-purchase: A lease contract that might...okay, probably will...end with a balloon payment to conclude the sale of the power unit to the lessee.

Lease: A fancy name for truck rental wherein the driver pays the lessor, very often the same company the driver works for, a weekly fee for the privilege of "ownersup" and the responsibility to pay for everything. There will be no exchange of title at the completion of the lease, no matter how long.

Just keep in mind that not every driver who leases a truck wants to own it at the end. Some of them just want the challenge of being a small business owner for a clearly predefined, limited period of time.

    You're welcome.

My orientation starts 1/11. I have to call tomorrow to confirm bus and hotel information. I'm pretty excited!

As for getting my CDL, my test is on Monday 1/5. I'm pretty confident I'll pass.

Its a very rare occasion that they will let you purchase the same truck you were leasing, although it can happen under specific circumstances. In most cases if you want to purchase you will choose a truck from the available "for sale" fleet.

The purchase program is completely separate from the lease. Owners and Lease Ops are both under the umbrella of Alliance as far as pay goes but the purchase is actually through a Bank out of New York. The loan is backed by Stevens and is financed at 18%. They also want 6000.00 down.

A lot of the Stevens fleet does get sold to 3rd party vendors, ie, MHC Kenworth. The financing options through these dealers may be more appealing but if your credit sucks it may not be an option.
