The MC# would come with a corporation, which would also include the DOT number. An MC issued to a sole proprietor would be useless to the OP. As to DOT numbers, since they are issued in order, it is very easy to tell how old one is, just like MC#'s. I was issued mine in late 2001, so any DOT that is around 1071XXX is that old. The newest ones are 2000xxx

When FMCSA transfers the authority, you will get a new number anyway, somewhere in the 2,500,000 range now. They discontinued transferring old numbers to a new company or individual. No more deception available. Get a new number like everyone else....
