    I replaced the EGR also last week; was throwing egr flow codes for 2 months ,on and off, but I deleted the codes and drive. When I took the truck to shop was making strange noise, not pulling right but did not derate, and didn't show codes. I was thinking is done and needs inframe; i have 1,120,000 miles on original motor; I asked them to open the top cover check and adjust the valves , was nothing wrong; checked for boost leaks, nothing; they did a balance power test and compression test, nothing, the motor is ok. We did a road test bobtail, was pulling ok; after we hooked a heavy trailer got same symptoms, was like choked; the technician suggested to replace the EGR, and.... this was the fix.
    This is my 2nd EGR replaced since I got the truck in July 2007, but the original one lasted over 900,000 miles, I replaced it last year in March.

    both sensors have been replaced. Manifold and mixer box twice with no luck. Volvo us has invested 10k$ in trying to find the issue too and still no joy. I'm thinking it is a sensor or the ecu that is acting up once the temps raise.
    26k lbs load on 7% grade 25 mph 1600 rpm 20lbs of boost and the truck is struggling. You hit the top of the hill and put your foot into it and your lucky to see 20lbs of boost for three to five minutes after the pull. Then it returns to normal, hit the accelerator and 30-35 lbs boost. The engine brake also will only achieve about 15lbs of boost when activated and used to run 25-30lbs of manifold pressure.

    Ok dyno was disappointing. Truck fell on its face. 1916rpm 398hp slipcorr 1746rpm 351hp slipcorr could only get 28lbs boost and power fell off so fast couldn't even complete the test.
    recomendation from Volvo...we think you need 6 injectors. Wth only another $5k on another guess. I'll post if it fixes the problem which I doubt

    Injectors are in and no difference. It is in volvos hands now and Volvo us corporate has been working with the dealer for two days trying to resolve the issue. Still have no answers

    ok i think i have finally found the solution to this nagging problem.

    oil pressure sensor.

    theory goes as follows: when pulling a grade, oil temp increases, thereby thinning the oil. once this happens it allows the oil to pass into and through the oil pressure sensor not allowing it to read the pressure accurately and derates engine reducing boost, causing the fault.

    sensor changed and fault went away. had oil at the connector.

    if this fault happens to you, pull the oil pressure sensor plug(located aft of the ecu) and check for oil. this sensor runs on the same 5v circuit as the boost pressure sensors.

    oil in connector is bad thing, it may go to ECM connectror by wires drop by drop and.... oil inside ECM destois transformer. It may blow

    update

    I replaced the venture pipe, and diff pressure sensor. problem appears to be resolved

    Another update. Oil pressure sensor didn't fix the problem, new head didn't fix the problem, and now the truck makes boost on its own while coasting(no engine brake, and no throttle). Still losing boost on pulls.

    so the new issue is this: when you let off the throttle boost will fall and then build back up to 15-20psi. You can hear the turbo spool, and a change in engine sound, while the pressure is up. It will hold for 10-20 seconds and drop off again. The factory rep says that this is normal tho I have never had a truck do this before. The next issue is when it is cold outside 15* or less the boost will fluctuate between 15-30psi back and forth erratically, while under hard acceleration.

    also while idling the engine will slowly climb from .6g/h to 1.5g/h this takes roughly 30 mins. While it's doing this, if you hit the throttle the engine is really leggy until you hit 1300rpm at which point the engine will jerk and rev freely.

    im at a loss and running out of money, while these clowns have not a clue what's wrong.


    any thoughts?
