This is what happens when you don't SLOW DOWN in bad winter conditions

OK, so what's the answer? Do we need info boards every mile? I laugh at these vehicles with on-board gizmo's that slow the vehicle down, but is that really what it's coming to? I see trucks in that mess, that you NEVER used to see in wrecks (A&R, for one). Do we just change the TV station to "Family Guy", and say, "Oh well, doesn't affect me, because I wasn't in it". Is this just the wave of the future, 150 vehicle pile-ups? It's no wonder this country is going down the tubes, look at all the wasted time, and ruined freight, and lives. Vehicles get safer, air bags and belts, and then, things like cell phones, which, I'm sure many of these people were talking or texting on, are allowed. I know, there are laws against truckers using cell phones, but I see so many driver's still talking or texting on them. What is so darned important? I come from a time when there were no cell phones, and this kind of thing never happened. If I could sum up ONE thing that has created more havoc on the road, it HAS to be the cell phone.

I don't disagree with you on the cell phones. I do think that's only a portion of it though. People have gotten so used to being "connected" to something. I'm severely peeved at GM/Chevy (can't remember) for putting wifi into their vehicles.

Cell phones are bad, but when it's become so easy to do more than just talk people think that it's okay to surf the net for that place to eat. Text a buddy they are on the way. It boils down to the simple fact that not concentrating on the road is acceptable because those who do text and drive and so on feel that the consequences that could happen to them aren't severe enough.

It goes back to something I said earlier about drivers in Germany. It's so costly to get a license in the first place and even minor tickets like littering are too expensive to not be cautious over.

At this point though, I'm not even sure increasing the severity of punishment for violating the laws would work. It's going to take a severe wake up call. ...I think what scares me the most is that your average joe is going to see this type of wreck, say "oh my god that's horrible" and the next day he's driving down the same snowy road at full speed.

Ive got a sick sense of humour, some might even call it a British sense of humour. But I don't dare go as far as Freight.

Little common sense goes along way. Icy conditions slows me way down and opens my following distance.

 

The trick with lake effect is its in bands, and developes over a matter of minutes. You get through one band, and drive for long enough you think you're in the clear. That leads you to speed up. But wait! Here comes another band... with the almost instant icy road.

 

gm and chev are the same company, and what's wrong with wifi? EVERY vehicle should have it. the service is expensive, just like the cell phone, but doesn't come with a cap.

i know oil rigs in colorado, that have wifi in their trucks for their employees who have to sit and watching over any given rig. bored as heck with nothing to do but play on the internet. i think they even supply the laptops for their employees. can't remember.
