My truck is on the road now, and anytime take foot off gas pedal, alot of black smoke comes out of the exhaust, anytime floor it, black smokes come out. But if it stays constant speed no smoke.
No check engine light or anything us on. The truck mechanically is running normal. Any help would be great. Its a detroit DDec 5 12.7L on a freightliner century.
My driver checked around the turbo and no oil anywhere, it was dry.
    Any help would be great.

I don't know about the new ones but we used to call it "Pourin on the coals" in the old mechanicals every time you grabbed one it'd send a nice little puff out the stacks, and any of us who had them turned up got a steady stream till it blew it all out then the next gear we'd get more smoke.

Check the clamps on the EGR hose. One could be broken. I have a Det. 60. Did the same thing.

Too much fuel, We used to like that look, shimimming fule pumps, changing out injectors.

May just need to have the ecu reset.

Got an update from the shop:
they said its giving codes for the egr valve and I have to get a new one. $856 dollars.
I put the lucas injector cleaner and it stopped giving the smoke. But now the truck keeps misfiring like crazy.
could the egr do this, or is there a problem with the injectors?
    thanks for all the help
