I'm an avid follower of the Smith System. Even have the 5 steps posted on my dash as a reminder. ..but really they are just common sense.

Neither is GET FUEL. I think the thread is about the little nuances and unofficial rules we follow.

From what I have seen / witnessed over the years WEARING PANTS must be 1 of those little nuances and unofficial rules to some driving trucks

When ever a truck overtakes me in the left lane I speed up and stay just in front of him until I move to the left lane, then I resume my chosen travel speed until I move back into the right lane and speed up to stay in front of that truck that wanted to pass me.

Little nuances and unofficial rules to some driving trucks?

I'm going to do whatever #### well I please cause I'm the man is the general rule followed by most drivers. If I want to stand in line for 30 min at Subway while the truck sits in the fuel isle I will. If I wanna park over here I will. etc. I dare you to say different. Thats the unofficial rule followed by most drivers. Wanna know why drivers will talk about the nice guy, the guy that went out of their way to do it right? Because its rare. I got hours to talk about the A hoes but I only have five minutes of talk time about the good ones.

    77smartin Thanks this.

As far as passing people or being passed by people when the speed difference is 1 mph the choice is to maintain your speed or maintain your space. I choose space.

Fortunately I drive a variable speed truck and aren't stuck running at the governed limit. This allows me to pick a speed that keeps me away from others and to choose to pass only when I can do it quickly.

Seems strange that not all trucks have the variable speed feature. :|

Traffic code is a minimum standard.

I fear no bear, my poop stays in a group.

Never release the brakes without multiple options of where they will be set next.

Never be "in a hurry". Before reaching for door handle or brake buttons, check mind for state of hurry. If found, take 3 deep breaths and get it all out.

Remember the damage that you can cause, and fear it.

Treat every oblivious motorist like you would want others to treat your most beloved person suffering a bout of brain flatulence.

Build in ample following distance at the top of entrance ramps.

Watch the tops of entrance ramps for traffic that will be entering the highway, and adjust sooner rather than later.

If your manner of operation does not match your formal education and training, you're doing it wrong, regardless of how long you've been doing it that way, or absence of consequences.

Take responsibility for your actions. Prevent the "unpreventable" crashes.
