I haven't seen a lot of Old Dominion freight line threads on here and maybe I'm not looking hard enough. But I figured I would start one since I just got a job with them out of Syracuse, New York for line haul. I start February 2nd. The hiring process was quite lengthy but nothing unbarable (applied to them about 4weeks ago). The process was kind of confusing as I had to go to the terminal to put in a data sheet which just has my name and number on it so that they could call me. Once they called me I had to come in to fill out an application and at that point is when I ask questions like pay and benefits but the terminal manager didn't have hard information except on the benefits. Until I go in on the 2nd I still don't know what I'm actually going to be paid. All I know is that training will be two days long with one day of orientation. The manager said their pay is .52 or .54 per mile but had to check with safty which wasn't there at the time. There just seems to be a lot of information that I still don't know that most companies layout for you when they call you for an interview (pay, vaca, etc.) When he called me, he just said we would like you to come in and fill out an application. I guess that meant he picked me for the job as long as my mvr, app, and driving test went well but I felt awkward asking do I have the job or am I still in the application phase. Anyway, I'm super excited to start. They all seem like great people. Ask any and all questions and I'll try to answer them the best I can. I will try to update this as often as possible with pay and my experiences.

I personally have heard good things about Old Dominion.
Apparently they pay better than my outfit because the hired a few drivers plus a dispatcher away from us a few years ago. -
Yeah I've heard nothing but positive things. I'll be going from Syracuse to Harrisburg or Syracuse to Erie M-f. Can't get better then that

I haven't met anyone working there that isn't happy (as can be) with it. I'm sure it's not all rainbows and flowers but overall it sounds like a good gig

draker, I am starting with OD Feb. 6 for linehaul and I feel your pain on the lengthy hiring process. Linehaul starts out .56/mile. I've heard lots of good about them. I know the terminal I will work out of gets lots of Con Way defectors.

I'll be working out of Indianapolis. Extra board.

Oh nice. Aren't the terminals different as far as pay goes

Sorry I haven't been updating so I'll catch everyone up. Monday was my 1 st day. Filled out benefits info on the kiosk and watched about 50 videos which took about 5 hours. Tuesday night I went in for my 1 st night with a trainer. He drove since I didn't have an employee number yet. Line haul seems easy. Ran into some crap weather in PA. When we got back, I was issued pad locks, fuel card and my employee number. Wednesday night dispatch called me and said the run was canceled for the night due to bad weather. I go back in tonight hopefully at 9:30pm
