Trip6 is on the money. Read what he said a couple times. Very good advice. I am very glad I have shoe/boot cleats. I was in Montana and Saskatchewan Canada for a while. Very icy.
This is a fun career, I love it. Have fun n be safe.

Congrats, Melton is a great company, their pretty friendly, I'm sad to say, I just gave them my 2 week notice, not leaving because of bad experience with them, just got a local job, being home every day at my age, is just to appealing to me than to stay OTR, best of luck

No reason to have to drive all night with Melton, unless you choose to

Had a prehire with Melton before I got through my school. I settled with TMC. Not a bit sorry I did either. The Melton recruiter made hometime seem like it was an earned benefit. I cant knock them as they seem to be a solid company and pull some decent freight. I think you should do alright if your willing to be out for up to 3 weeks at a time. Just stick with their securement and tarping training.

TripleSix, thats the best advice I have heard in a long time. My equipment hauling operation was a bit different than what you guys are doing but the rules are just the same in trucking. I would have loved to have had a driver with your perspective.

They wont give you a letter, but they will tell you if you are approved or not.

Well congrats on finding a company and getting ready to take the next step.

I may still be new but one thing I learned real quick even is ask questions no matter how stupid you think it may be cause the only stupid question is the one you dont ask.And remember its not a race out there drive what you feel safe and when you are backing up at a truck stop or shipper just remember G.O.A.L Get out and look and if you are not sure you can back into a hole at a truck stop or back into the dock at a shipper with out hitting a truck dont be scared to ask another driver to spot you backing up.I still need help every now and then and every guy I ask tells me the same thing. They would rather you ask for help then hit there truck.

But just remember when you get out there to keep your head up and be safe.
