Yes they are harder to back but overall much better than shifting. Not a big drawback considering you drive forward 99.9% of the time.

i hate automatic cars, i cant even fathom an automatic truck

though i do hear, some drivers like it and prefer it over manually shifting

You get used to backing them.

    Just takes getting used to.

Still don't like giving fuel in between two trucks though -.-

Just take it slower and wave at the line forming.

    Hi guys!
    :)

Cause next job you going to work for probably will have manuals only, and you better know how to put it in gear with out lot of grinding. And besides personally I find it entertaining.

If driving through SoCal or the I-95 corridor, I see the good things about an automatic. Running the I-5 through NorCal and Oregon and the western states, I would want a manual, especially in winter time.

You do understand you can shift an auto right? It's not like a car auto, your gear ranges are a lot smaller (typically range from 1st to 6th) but you can still run up an down hills like a mt. Although if you let the AT do the work going up it will shift late or too early when it thinks it should. Driving a MT you shift when you need too. But going down hill just put it in its gear you need to keep her under control and ride it out. Need a lower gear and you'll put a lot of stress on the engine by going lower when the engine speed is still too high to shift. It'll go though just not very nicely.

In an auto when you take off on a hill lot eaiser to roll back because you dont have a clutch. Also climbing hills, cant shift when I feel comfortable or want to, at mercy of truck. Plus in regards to backing...with a manual you can ride your clutch and slowly tap dock with no jarring. In an auto always slamming docks and when hou go to get into your set hp you always roll past it cause autos take longer to stop. Alwags have to give gas when backing up, unless on hill.

Lack of reliability and why do I need one? Shifting a 13....especially a 13 behind one of these new engines with a flat broad torque curve....is like driving an auto anyway...without the headaches.

Search this message board for keywords "auto, transmission, problems, stranded" or some such variation and then ask yourself that question again.
