I can't speak for them but I can't imagine them wasting their time with someone limited to intrastate. If I were you go with the grain company. The big companies will want you to be with someone for a few weeks to a month and no one that pulls for them really stay in one state. But like I said I can't speak for them. Another thing is that its not so much them but the insurance company sets the age cutoff limits.

Because of a medical waiver I need to stay intrastate only (in state/local) and when the school had mega recruiters none of them did local work.
Even regional work thru mega crossed state lines and IIRC you have to be 21 to cross state lines with a CDL.

Now yes you can get your CDL before you are 21 just stay in state till then so local grain Co. sounds like who you might be able to work with at this time.

No, none of the Mega Carriers are going to touch you till your 22. If your in CA try Robertson Ready Mix.

Before you commit to school find a local company that says they will put you to work if you get it. More than likely get a pell grant go to college get your BS then youll be old enough. And you will have lots more choices.

I don't think that is 100% true as when the mega's came thru school and some were under 21 they would ask when do they turn 21 and what the grad date was. If they would be 21 at grad date they were good to be hired on. Then again it could be something they had worked out with the school?

So I would check with the mega you want to go with to see what they have to say.

Yes, get started now with the grain company or the other outfit, as long as your driving tractor trailers. The day you turn 21 you can hit the road running coast to coast with several companies.

Make a list of OTR companies that hire at 21 then a couple weeks before your 21st birthday, start submitting applications.

It depends on the state, insurance, and records. You can get an intrastate cdl. It's only good for the state you live in. And yes some companies do hire drivers as young as 18 to do local and intrastate work. You'll just have to speak with one company after another until you here yes. That's about how it works.

Many people giving advice on here. Only know about an interstate cdl requirements. Most states only require 18 years of age to get a intrastate cdl. I'm second gen driver. I remember in the 1980's when a lot of trucks were running farm plates to skip having to comply with taxes and d.o.t regulations. And state commercial drivers license requirements. Basically farm plates ment you didn't have to have a drivers license or any certain age to operate the truck.
