There is no national/uniform fuel surcharge. Every contract can be different.
That said, I see $1.00/gal @ 6mpg more often than anything else.BigBadBill Thanks this. -
Current diesel $2.79-$1.25=$1.54/5=.308 if its true what he said at the new Fuel surcharge Base pay would look like this
Current diesel $2.79-$2.59=$0.20/5=.0.04 cents ?
im sure more people will chime in
But you know whats funny is different carriers will never tell you how they come to they base pay for fsc
Thats why you have to know it for yourself, because that 100% fsc doesnt always mean 100% fsc to the Owner OperatorBigBadBill Thanks this. -
You should never drink and talk about money.
BigBadBill, spyder7723 and Wolfyinc Thank this. -

DOD changed the base to 2.50 quite a few years ago. Linehaul rate went up to compensate the difference.

There are 1000 ways to argue this. As stated many carriers base FSC on different things. Some use DOE national average. Others use regional averages. Also brokers and shippers may use different systems. I've noticed trying to discuss FSC with the industry as a whole is almost impossible. What UPS pays/charges is figured different then what LS brokers pay/charges which is different then what Mercer brokers pay/charge. And the list goes on. Needless to say, unless both of you are doing the same thing you really are trying to compare different formulas.

When I was leased the carriers customers all had different fsc: from no fsc to 40% of the rate and anywhere in between. All depends on what the carrier contracts to. Whether a flat rate related to current fuel price or % based on fuel price.

I always thought the % based were interesting. Basically rewarding higher rates with higher surcharge. Good deal
