Put some lumber under your wheels and crank that sucker as high as you can. When the kid misses the pin and shortens the cab, he might learn sumptin. I worked with an ahole at my last onion job. He had 24's whilst I had 22's. Asked him a few times to stop trying to be Popeye and leave 2 inches of air under his pads. Guy got more belligerent ever time i asked. The other guy that did the same thing was just plain stupid and retarded and I gave up before i asked him. When I started at my new company they had a rash of bunks getting hit by too high trailers. I knew I found the right company when we went for the test drive the safety guy said co. policy was leave 1-2" of air under the pads and dump your bags and pull out. Thank God I'm dedicated and I'm the only one that touches my 2 trailers. There's just too many morons in this bizz anymore that won't listen.

I understand your condition really. I'm just not sure you should expect another to cater to you. There is a simple solution to the dilemma. Back up close enough throw down a couple of boards and back up on them just as another poster said. Thing is I'm betting that they are pretty close to the same height every time which means he is not doing it on purpose. Asking him to drop them at your height may actually put more work on him especially if he has to move it out of the way before you hook to it. Yes he is younger but is it really right to expect him to set them at your height.

I use to pick up loaded trailer at JBS in Greeley,CO Every time I was there, the trailer where jacked all the way up, I would grab a yard dog, to get him to hook up and raise the trailer so I can raise up the landing gear easier, I asked them one time, why do you guys jack them so high, the reply I got was " it make it easier for the loader to load the trailer" So I asked "Then why don't you guy's raise up the landing gear when their done loading the trailers?" They said most drivers never say anything? so why waist the time?

Why don't you sneak in at night and reset the leveling valve on his yard dog truck so he will be dropping the trailers lower. LOL

Yard dogs, gotta love em.At Tyson they complained all the time about me dropping the trailer and lowering it too low or didn't like where I dropped the empties which was in mud pits.KB told me over and over about the complaints, did I listen nope because ive repeatedly asked them to stop leaving the trailers so high. What goes around comes around.

If the trailer has air bag suspension try backing up close enough to hook up the red air line and charge the trailer up. This will raise the tandems and teeter totter over the landing gear thereby lowering the front end of the trailer a little bit-- maybe enough.

Then stand back!!..because releasing the brakes on a loaded/unhooked trailer can be very entertaining to watch..

Best solution is to keep some wood where these trailers are. Back up on the boards. Most guys carry a big 4x4 anyways for a chalk. Helps with stubborn tandems. Also helps when chaining up to place the wood under the inner drive so you can chain the outer drive tire.

    Good luck.
