Used to be a good company till this "woman" named Tanis got hired. She has no real authority, but has managed to take over the company through bullying, and uses mobbing to control anyone she can't handle herself. She's the kind of person who thrives on arguments and backstabbing and actually sabotages loads so customers will yell at drivers. Lost alot of customers that way but it doesn't matter to her, as long as she can blame someone else for her incompetence and screwups.
While I worked there I was told that since I wasn't married, I did not need days off and should never ask. Got set up with a schedule one day that required 1800 km in a 24 hour period. When I mentioned it was too much, the dispatcher Janette said "well, can't you just drive then sleep then drive some more?" The other driver did it and got 2 1/2 hours sleep. He later told me his hardest run was 36 hours without a break except for fuel.
Been yelled at for making the legally required tire check stops, keeping a legal log book right after going through a D.O.T. inspection, and once got yelled at for not taking a set of hopper bottoms out on the highway at 4 AM when not a single light was working. Another guy and I were told to take hopper bottoms to pick up potash loads with dirty trailers. I refused and got yelled at, insulted and threatened. His load was rejected as contaminated and he was kicked off hoppers for a year. The pay sheets are set up to be really confusing so drivers don't really understand where they're being shafted. Different rates for different loads with the same type of trailer, different rates depending on the length of the run, and different rates depending on the number of axles, and another set of rates based on net tonnage. Safety bonuses they try to keep you from getting, clothing allowances you have to beg to get. One driver got his million mile gold watch and when he retired a month later(at 67) the manager called him up and sreamed at him to give it back since he was so disloyal and even called him a thief!
They have graduated pay, and want to get rid of you before reaching the full rate, and before you get any pension and health benefits. They try to screw up your driving record because the last thing they want is for a driver to leave and get a better job after. They love broke drivers because that gives them more control. They never tell you the truth about your loads so every time you read the Qualcomm, your first question is what is wrong this time! If you book a vacation, they'll try to trick you into taking a load which won't get you back in time, even though they authorized the booked time off already. Nickle and dime repairs so bad several shops in Manitoba won't deal with the Brandon trucks anymore!
And after all this, they complain that they can't get good drivers anymore, and why are they getting so many incidents?
Harassment, discrimination, sexual harassment, forced over hours, forced over weights, forced to use unsafe equipment, emotional destabilization, theft, lies, there is no trick these wastes of skin won't use! The only drivers left are either butt kissing tools or victims. I worked hard to keep my driving record clean, and now have a job with a good company, with dispatchers you can actually talk to like people and managers who appreciate the lack of problems good drivers cause. Best yet, I'm making almost as much doing line haul as I did long haul! Almost forgot how much I love being on the road, and I get to pull turnpikes now!
I go past Paul's yard ever night when I leave town and laugh at how many of their trucks just sit collecting dust. Two other companies have sprung up with the business Paul's has chased away. Paul couldn't keep 5 live bottom trailers on the road, while another company is running 19 hauling the same potatoes! How's that for incompetence?
Moron trucking companies aren't just an American problem unfortunately. Seems to be a world wide moron epidemic!

I get scared every time I see them with a fuel train going down the road.

Winnipeg does the fuel, and they're better than Brandon. They're actually willing to do necessary repairs. Anyone else have bad experiences with Canadian companies? Not seeing much on the thread list. (Are we really that good? :biggrin_2559:

ohh there is more than a few but in my experience, and receiving the threat of being sued if i mention a certain company my best friend drove for(TFW) I tend to keep quite (ER) than I used to be!
yeah I wondered why Brandon yard kept an add on kijiji for so long.

Any company that constantly advertises for drivers must have a reason why they don't stay. And the fuel haulers aren't the ones to worry about, even though their pretrip inspections are a joke, what worries me is that some of the anhydrous trailers I saw in Brandon were built in the 1970s! A weld here, some new paint there and it looks like lipstick on a pig! The seasonal drivers always said the most important thing unloading was always park and stand upwind because the hoses blew up regularly.
$70,000 a year with daytrips only? Only a rookie would believe that crap.
