Hey guys, I have a '75 K100C which presently has a 1693TA with a spun bearing. I am wanting to swap that out for a 3406E I have already sitting in my shop. I am curious if any of you have done something like this (swapped mechanical for electronic in a C cab) and what kinda major troubles I am going to run into, other then having a custom air to air made.

Not a clue, but I'd like to see pics when you're done.

first off you would miss the rattle, would it just be cheaper to replace the bearing, that being said the fuel consumption on a 1693 is horrible, and they weigh a lot. yes you could but electrical problems would be a night mare,if you are running a 125 13 speed trans that is pretty big hp for that tranney, and you might have problems with rear end ratio because of the 3406 rpm range. in the 70s when glider kits were the way to go a lot of guys did engine swaps like that. lots of luck p.s. run a lot of 1693s and they were a great truck motor good for D-9 dozers to

This is what I didnt want, everybody to tell me why I shouldnt do it, or every other little problem other then the task at hand. I am only asking about doing an engine swap as I already have the tranny to swap with the engine, and the diffs are 3.90, so with the speed I run, they will be just fine. Why would wiring problems be a nightmare if all I have to do is order a custom harness from an outfit that makes then specifically for this purpose?

Consider it a bump to keep the thread at the top. Otherwise, if it'll work for your purposes, for your purposes, it'll work. BTW, what specific "task at hand" are you referring to? The original post asks about any major problems you're going to run into, without specifying what task. If you've got your air-to-air and wiring harness sorted, I'm assuming you can tackle further tasks as they present themselves.

I was seeking info from someone who has first hand experience on repowering a K100C with an electronic engine. Im looking for info on what I might run into other then being a normal engine swap. Engine mounts, rad, tranny mounts, shift linkage etc...the list goes on.

The task at hand here is swapping a 1693 for a 3406E, as mentioned in the OP.

I just ask because jbourque mentioned wiring, and that didn't seem to go over too well. I figured if somebody mentioned motor mounts or shift linkages, you'd spout off that there's no reason that'd be a problem as you'll just have an outfit that specializes in that aspect whip something up.

Ohh I see, so you know everything about what needs to be done here then. If not then you dont really need to reply then right? Why is it so hard to get good info from people who have actually done this instead of the sideliners who just wanna throw in their 2 cents whether they know anything or not...

Thats all I am seeking here, info from someone who has actually done it, not someone who needs to point out what I should or shouldnt say.

I've done a b model to e model swap in a 1989 k100 e. Not exaclly what your doing but probley be similar. I went thru kustomtruck in coos bay Oregon for my wiring harness and pedal. Perty straight forward.

Only thing with your setup I'm not sure if mounts on 1693 are same as E. Be nice if they were, make things a lot easier for you. Also not much room for air to air on those cabs. Be interesting to see how your gonna make that work.
Good luck thou. Be cool build!👍

From what I have found out so far, the front mount is the same, but the rear mounts will only half ####### line up. This is why I am lookin for info on a K100'C' to find out what all was done to make the air to air work properly...
