I have been running for a small company called Dark Star Transportation out of Knoxville, TN. We are a small company (currently only 10 drivers on the road with a couple of empty trucks sitting at the yard), but we run strong for being so small.

I have been running here for just over a year, and have to say that so far i am very happy with them. we are always on the move, and only run a 500 mile radius of Knoxville so it's not hard to get home. We are a flatbed company, however as of right now we carry no chains on our trucks (except for certain trailers setup for oversize with a header board and a footboard). We run mostly lumber and building materials, with a few steel loads here and there. Any oversized load we haul is Overlength only. We do not run over width.

We will be receiving a pay increase here in a week or so. start out will be 37 cpm. For every load we pull we are guaranteed $110. Occasionally we are able to run a second load for a day, and make an extra $110 for the day. Pay is broke down into days rather than per load. Tarp and oversize pay is $20. You get tarp pay regardless of if you tarped it, or if someone else did and you just delivered the load and had to pull the tarps off.

Trucks are a mixed bag of nuts. we have 3 2010 KW T660s, and 2 2012 T660s, (all with flat top sleepers), 1 2010 Freightliner Cascadia, and 2 2012 (?) Cascadia's, (all with midroof sleepers), all these trucks are equipped with thermo king Tri-pac APUs and have an extended frame, very useful for hauling 60' rebar. then we have 2007 Peterbilt 386s, we try not to use these trucks too much due to maintenance.

We could use some good drivers, looking for people who live around the Knoxville area. Further out is possible, However you will have to talk with the office to make sure. Looking for minimum 1 year experience. May be able to work with less. Flatbed Experience is very helpful, however we will be able to train you in flatbed, since we don't deal with anything too difficult.

Office is located off middlebrook pike here in Knoxville. Office is open 730a-500p M-F.

For more information call 888-327-5888. Ask for Jerry.

I'm curious about how much experience is really required. Dark Star's website says minimum 5 yrs. how slow does freight get in the winter months since most of the loads are building materials? What is a realistic expectation in pay for the week? Thanks in advance

This is off topic, but I'm curious. Due to the company name I wonder, Is the owner a big Grateful Dead fan?

Just saw your post. Sorry about that. Minimum experience is at least a year. They would like 2 we don't slow down much in the winter time. With such a small company we are able to keep rolling pretty well. Been here almost a year and a half and have only had to wait for a load twice. Never more than 15 mins, and only because the loads I was supposed to have feel through. Bring home pay has been between 650-750 a week. Every week.
