Can't speak to the 520, but the 720 has always been reasonably fast, touchscreen is not as responsive as phone, but that's to be expected, its ruggedized, phone isn't, lag,.... New map update made it faster, 730 is lightning fast by comparison, tablet.... Quicker but well, still testing it out

I dont use gos except for local driving and hardly for that anymore. Dont even use a map. Just know where I am going. Learn where you are going and just say good bye to gps...easier that way

I had a lady in NJ tell me since I was a truck driver that I should know every road and city in the US, She could not give me directions to her business when I was .5 miles away.

you dont go on every road in the US, nor will you ever. Unless you dedicated all your time and money to do such, as a truck driver, if there were no such thing as low clearances and no truck routes, it would take to 2-3 lifespans to travel EVERY road in the US.

It isnt that hard to memorize the COMMON routes to various cities and to your most frequent shipper/receiver. As said, with both those in mind, I have the location and routes memorized to my most frequent stops including any alternate routes that may exist.

Well I can see where an individual can get by without a GPS. I have been out here a few years and am capable of getting most anywhere in the US without a GPS. I may have to check out the RM Motor Carriers on occasion but for the most part I can get around. I ordered a 2008 389. The salesman told me it came with a GPS mounted in the dash. I asked that it be deleted. When I took delivery there it was. I was not very happy about it taking up dash space, plus I did not think I needed it. After a few months, I actually started liking the thing. It wasn't like it was indispensable but in certain situations it really helped out. Today I have a different truck and a Garmin Nuvi. It is not a truck unit. It does pretty much what I want. I plan on upgrading soon so I am watching the threads closely to help me make the best decision. My opinion is if you try using a GPS for a while you will begin to see the advantages of having one. One thing I would like to add is that the help that Mark offers to the owners of RM products tends to stack the deck in RM's favor for me. The negative side is starting over with my favorites stored in my Garmin.
