Thanks for all the advice and the descriptions of ODFL. I put in resume's at the two closest terminals to me (Jersey City and Edison) and have an interview next week. Talked to the managers about the starting pay (impressive) and the areas they cover. I have apps in with all the LTL outfits around here, but OD seems a cut above most of them, so I have no problem wading through the hiring process for a little while if it works out...

They've got a pretty impressive record, with 99% on time delivery and low claim rates.

Do ODFL and the other LTL companies require their drivers to be clean-shaven? I think UPS does (unless someone has a religious reason). Have a couple interviews coming up and don't know how my salt-and-pepper beard will go over. It's not long enough to get caught in machinery, and I keep it neat, but I know some carriers who service chemical plants require you to shave, so that a respirator can seal to your face.

I have a beard, estes dont care.Doubt any of the ltl carries do for the most part.

During the initial interview, yes. Be presentable and clean shaven. After that, you are okay. I see guy with rick Ross beard all the time at work.
