I like to chain over the front of the pumpkin, then run each end under the axle on each side and back to stake pockets. Front end whatever works I guess

The best thing to use are the wheel straps. Four of them.
If you wrap the axle with chains you must take pictures with a time stamp to prove that there is no damage. If you chain or strap to the hitch or frame of the car you must tighten it down until there can be no bounce or movement. Large trucks have springs that are stiff enough to chain to the frame. Cars and pick up trucks are to soft to work well this way.
I have found the wheel straps to be a great "extra" securement when hauling trailers i.e. generators, air compressors and pumps that are mounted on trailers with springs. With the wheel straps in place you can put both the fore and aft chains between the axle and the jack to secure the trailer. This will prevent the problems you can often have when you place a chain across the tongue and the rear of the trailer and try to compress a set of springs and the resulting flex or movement.crackinwise Thanks this. -
The one time I had to move a pickup on my gooseneck, I wrapped a chain around each corner of the frame and pulled it down tight with ratchet binders. Worked fine for me but I don't do that everyday.

Whatever you do, make sure the parking brake is set, and it is either in gear or P. I also like to chain down a 4x4 in front of and behind the tires to be safe. I got some tire straps, but they're pretty much useless without a car trailer deck, since the legs aren't long enough to reach the stake pockets or the trailer frame.
Do not put a chain around tie rods. Figured that out on my own pickup. There may be tiedown points in the frame, but they'll probably be too small for a 3/8" chain hook to fit into. -
You could also do like the JRC/CLT operators do with Humvees: throw 3 4" straps over the hood and rear end

TO the OP, make sure you have $1 million in liability, that's required to haul vehicles. -
I chain the front end by the tow hooks, then back up the truck to squat the front end. Then I chain the back end on the frame somewhere, or the rear hitch.
