hey guys, like the title says i'm looking to get started with a good company..
21
Ohio
New CDL holder
Hazmat and tanker endorsements
Good MVR
I'm not so worried about home time (can do OTR/regional/local) more worried about pay and keeping the wheels turning. i know a lot of companies that hire student drivers aren't great, but i'd like to make the best of it.
thanks!
Recommend a company for a 21 year old in Ohio?

Where in Ohio do you live and would you be willing to run team?
Libler38 Thanks this. -
Here's some that hire 21 yr. olds:
Schneider Bulk - hazmat/tankers
Halvor Lines
Earl Henderson Trucking
Navajo Express
Melton Truck Lines
Pride Transport
A&R Logistics
Submit several applications.Libler38 Thanks this. -
I've looked into Earl Henderson before but on their online app it says min. age 23, i'll attempt to apply anyway. -
Schneider Bulk is much better than van by thousands of dollars a year. Schneider van also has teams so keep that in mind since teams will get the longer runs. Schneider van also has dedicated accounts, but if you want coast-to-coast running, forget the dedicated accounts; they're local/regional.
A guy posted on here this week he was offered a job with Henderson, and he's 21 yrs. old. If the policy has changed, let us know.
Pride and A&R are tough to get on with but worth trying.
I used to stop for coffee at a little truckstop near Nashville, TN and sometimes a Navajo Express driver was there hanging around because his mother was a cashier there. He had been driving for them a few years and was content. He was running hard coast-to-coast. They have terminals coast-to-coast.
Just depends on what you're looking for; some drivers don't want to stray far from their zip code and some want to see the whole country.
Either company you choose, try to stick with them for a year at least. Once your 23 yrs. old and have a good job record and driving record, a whole new world will open up for good trucking jobs.Last edited: Feb 22, 2015

SNI Bulk, The Pay looks fair and they have training near me ( 5 minutes ). Being biased and if things changed on my end to do OTR / Regional, Would do the Bulk.

Couldn't open Henderson application website, but found this on " 1truckingcompany.com " website.
[h=2]Truck Driver Job Requirements[/h]CDL Drivers License Needed: CDL Class A
Drivers must have the following CDL endorsements: Hazmat
Driver's minimum age required to work: 21 years old
If you're interested, guess a phone call will get the straight answer. -
Also, SNI does have a dedicated account for walmart in my area. I talked to a driver who was on it and he said he liked it but the Walmart people hate you because they have to unload you as soon as you back up to their dock, doesn't matter if they're at lunch or not. I'm not sure how the pay compares to bulk. -
Check out ECM transport. Sister company LTL is Pittohio if you want to do dry van. Screw that Wally World crap for mega carrier.
Never hurts to try, screw the experience required on a website.

You never mentioned if you went through a CDL training program. If not, that alone will limit the number of companies that will hire you.
This is entirely my opinion based on my career thus far. You will not find a single trucking company website that hires people your age that will tell you the the WHOLE truth about that company. Nor will you find a recruiter that will tell you the WHOLE truth about their company. You will not find that out until after you've agreed to drive for them and you are sitting in your truck. Every company out there is the best. Trust me. They'll all be happy to tell you the same.
Find several that will hire a 21 year old. Research the crap out of them (Don't forget to check RipOffReport). Some are very shady and will think nothing of screwing their drivers to make a buck. Some are "decent" though. Then pick one. Even if you get hired by the best company going, it's still a crap shoot. They're are just too many variables to know going in if you'll be happy there. Regardless, STICK IT OUT for a year. MINIMUM. Two if you can stand it. And do everything in your power to keep your record clean. Then you will be a commodity any company will be happy to have. Maybe even save up enough to get started in your own truck! (But that would probably take more than 2 years)
I'm from Columbus, just outside the beltway in Orient. I recently moved but still own my place there. Have some friends that told me K.L. Breeden has a terminal in Delaware. They hire strictly owner operators. But the O/Os can have multiple trucks and hire whoever they want to drive them (still have to be approved by KLB though). It's a 1099 job. But might be something to look in to.Libler38 Thanks this.
